LIU Post Decisions!

@StanfordAI2019 - my $ is your $… and it was A LOT of $$ - was still expensive though !

@mtmaybe i sent you a pm!

@mtmaybe I don’t have enough posts to send you a pm… Could you please pm me?

@Sonnie323 from my talking to the people there it seems as though their focus is acting. - I am specifically looking for a heavy dance program and vocals is the area I need the most work on. Given my choices, it seemed to obviously be the least likely fit for what I am looking for ! Good luck to everyone! The waiting is hard, and then the decisions are harder!

@mtmaybe is LIU closing for virtual classes?

@CBSQandA they are moving to online instruction from March 16-27 at this time. I’m sure new information will be available in the future–go to their webpage and there will be updates.

can anyone speak of the financial viability of LIU as a whole? I am concerned with low enrollment of other majors and being forced not to offer them. Also concerned with the school’s facilities maintenance.

LIU Post - Long Island University - slight concern. My D did the app, prescreens, and live audition in Chicago. She was accepted into the BFA MT Program. I was a little concerned about the number of students they were accepting as DH said they were looking for net 60-80 and the boards here and on Facebook are very active with accepted students. Now … one of D’s friends shows up on the FB Accepted page and did not audition or even apply to the school. Come to find out that she was recruited by the school for the M/T program. Personally, I think this kind of stinks. Not only do they accept a lot of students, they recruit as well? Curious what others think.

@user_752736 I believe that ~80 is BFA MT, Acting, and Theatre Arts combined. DH told my D that they were shooting for an MT class of 40 (30 girls, 10 boys). Wondering if your D’s friend was recruited for Theatre Arts. My D actually was too after they saw her at a festival audition…but then auditioned for MT instead.

@user_752736 A couple of years ago, DS had never heard of LIU until they reached out to him on Getacceptd and asked him to schedule an audition with them. He eventually did a walk-in at Chicago unifieds and was accepted. We visited when we were touring accepted schools. It wasn’t for him. Probably would not have done the walk-in if he had not be asked to audition. In talking with others his audition year, it sounded like they had reached out to a lot of people via getacceptd. Hadn’t heard about outright recruiting offers before though.

I suspect they accept a large number because their yield is low. I’ve noticed that several here have indicated LIU as one of the schools they released from consideration.

Hm, my post was flagged for moderation. Possibly because I posted a link to a facebook group. In case the post doesn’t survive moderation, I recommended that you check out a facebook group called LIU Post Parents Of Prospective Theatre/Dance Students. Click join, then answer the messenger request for a photo of your kid’s acceptance with your info blacked out. The moderator for the group actually spoke on the phone with me for an hour and her frosh daughter joined in between classes. They were very helpful!

Hi, current Post sophomore here!
We do have a lower yield than most schools, but that is mostly just because we are a newer program and don’t have the name that many programs do. I love my program and am very happy with my choice, but even I will admit that, as I was accepted to two other programs that had more name recognition/was more familiar with, I was ready to write off the program before I visited (my mom ended up making me go because I received a really incredible financial package, lol).

Does anyone know if a student can be in MT and Honors College at LIU Post?
TIA

My D recently attended an honors program for LIU and they said the highest percentage of majors represented in the honor’s program is MT - so I would say definitely yes!
