Living in Ypsi

I just graduated and will be working at UM. I would like to live in ypsi, (cheaper rent) but I don’t have a car, so I was not sure if I should live that far from UM. How long would you say a bus ride from ypsi to um would be? Is Ypsi more dangerous or severely impoverished compared to ann arbor?

Have you thought about living with roommates in Ann Arbor to save on housing costs?

I don’t know much about Ypsi (I bypass it on my commute), but I think the AATA is definitely easier to navigate if you live within the Ann Arbor city limits. A car is almost a necessity in Michigan.

Go to the AATA website. There are buses that link A2 to Ypsi and should take less than 30 minutes for travel even in the busiest times. Also, Ypsi as a whole is not as safe as A2. However, there are plenty of apartments along Washtenaw Ave. between A2 and Ypsi that are right along the bus line. Ypsi as a whole is not wonderful, but it is not severely impoverished.

Where does ypsi start and ann arbor end?

I personally consider anything east of US-23 and south of Clark Street to be part of Ypsilanti.

Ann Arbor borders west of US-23, south of M-14, and north of I-94.

I believe that the AA-Ypsi border is Carpenter Rd.

They don’t actually touch–you know how the street signs turn from green to blue, when you’re on Washtenaw avenue (or south of there?) That’s Pittsfield township. Trivia for the day!

You can save money living in Ypsi. If you were a student I’d be worried about the issues with being (essentially) a “commuter” student, but since you’re working for the U it’s a different matter. I would make living close to the busline a high priority.

With all these new apartment buildings coming online, I have to believe the rental market in AA is going to become more of a renters market. I wouldn’t rule out finding a deal in the city, or right outside.

Public transportation is very difficult to go from Ypsi to AA I think, I don’t know compeletly

^

Since both are within Detroit metro, I would be surprise if public transportation is difficult, may be mild.

Coolbrezze, public transportation is practically non-existent in the Detroit Metro area. Ann Arbor is really the only town with a decent bus system.

Coolbreeze. Another example of why Detroit and Ann Arbor are not in the same metro areas. They have totally separate bus systems.

Coolbreeze, Ann Arbor is definitely not within Detroit, nor is it even close to the public bus system. Ann Arbor is a good 20-30 min away driving. Ann Arbor is a whole different city that is very different from detroit

Wow. They told you Coolbreeze lol. Thanks for all your replies everyone.
