Living on Campus

Hello everyone,
I am a transfer student to UCSD from a community. I am not sure if I should live on compus or with my parents. Living on campus will be a great experience especially that I want to get into scientific research. On the other hand, living with my parents will save me lots of money. What do you think?

In general, students who live on campus, especially as freshman will do better than those who don’t. However, you have already shown that you are able to stay focused on academics simply by making the transfer from the community college. So academically it probably isn’t as big of a deal as it would be for others. If you can afford to live on campus, I would recommend it not just for some undefined “experience” but the fact that you will probably more likely to take advantage of campus activities and develop relationships that will help you academically and professionally. If you’re already taking out student loans to just afford tuition, then don’t.
