It is considered a high honor to be offered the opportunity to live on the lawn. It is quite uncommon to turn down the opportunity. Those who have a real problem with going outside to the bathrooms/showers in the winter don’t apply.

I don’t think much is “required” in terms of time commitment – it’s more that the University wants to put its “best foot forward” in these highly visible spaces, so they don’t want troublemakers/loud parties/slobs inhabiting the rooms. The faculty and staff pavilions (the two story buildings between the lawn rooms) are used for classes, receptions, and other high-level entertaining quite frequently.

All and all, living there would not impact your daughter’s otherwise quite busy schedule, and it is actually a “resume enhancer.”
