LizzyM formula

Can someone please post the LizzyM formula. Also once I have the number where can I find the list of match schools? I tried to look through SDN but cants figure it out.

As I understand it, LizzyM score is the school’s avg gpa x 10 - 1. An applicant then plugs his/her GPA into formula (not -1). An example would be applicant with 3.4 GPA x 10 + 35 = 69. Applicant’s number (69) is then compared to school’s LizzyM score and is meant to provide applicant with a very very rough way to evaluate his/her chance for a med school interview (not acceptance).

Here’s link from SDN (<a href=“Chances Calculator | Student Doctor Network”>Chances Calculator | Student Doctor Network) which provides link to a downloadable google.doc spreadsheet data (an SDN collaborative effort from 6/2011, based on the Lizzy M score), where applicant can fill in their stats and it will tell you for which US med schools you’re competitive.

It has not been reformulated for new MCAT scoring.

The data used is from 2010-11 cycle – so the numbers are out of date. Using the MSAR will probably yield better information for creating a list of schools to apply to at this point.

To download the spreadsheet you’ll need to sign to your google account. (Otherwise you can just look at the spreadsheet but you can’t used it.)

My previous post may have been confusing. After multiplying applicant’s GPA X 10, an applicant adds his/her MCAT score in, then compares it to school’s LizzyM scores.

Agree with wowm-- current MSAR data would be better to use than this outdated info. The old LizzyM spreadsheet will overestimate your chances but can be used very roughly as a guide. (You may want to subtract 2 points from your calculated LizzyM to better estimate your chances with the outdated spreadsheet)

I found the LizzyM calculation to be misleading for OOS publics. The results don’t seem to take into acct that many of those publics accept few OOS students unless they are MD/XXX or have some tie to the state.

^ true, the MSAR is much more up to date for those ststs.

Has the LizzyM calculations been updated with the new MCAT?

Can use to convert new score to old score, then use Lizzy formula

^good work @mom2collegekids and @Jugulator20 , that was my first concern when I saw a request for LizzyM formula.

@GA2012MOM, when I used the MSAR in 2009, it would show you the interview and acceptance rates for IS vs. OOS, but it wouldn’t show the GPA/MCAT. Does it do that now? Or did you just mean it’s more up to date for GPA/MCAT generally and you weren’t specifically referencing @mom2collegekids’s comment about the in state bias at public schools?
