trying to be a contender. i was gonna apply for spring 2012, then i read how strict they are about their requirements to be met completely by fall 2011. ■■■■■.

shouldnt THEY of all UC’s be lenient?

Lol at Merced. Good for them to establish standards, though.
Why don’t you apply at the UCs for fall 2012? What are your stats?

3.4 overall gpa. just finished my general ed (60 completed), using the next year to work on my lower div bio at CCC. URM (black/jewish/japanese). mother has 0 income, only child, upward GPA rising. shadow dentist @ dental office (trying to go for DDS after Davis).

planning to TAG @ Davis & UCSD

& apply to UC Berkeley (blahhhhh).

Don’t go to Merced! You’ll get into Davis for sure with TAG, as long as you adhere to the requirements.
Apply to Cal too! You never know what happens.

If you do a TAG, you’re in for sure. I had a 3.34 when I applied and was accepted to all TAG programs and Berkeley. If you want Berkeley or LA, make sure your personal statements are passionate about the school.

@keith = angel that just flew in.

@deanza thanks, glad you got into cal, if you dont mind droppin me off your stats real fast.

berkeley def passionate in. already been thinking for the past two years how im going to begin my statement.

@mypinkfriday: I think the personal statement can definitely get a student in. Raise you GPA to ~3.6, if you can, for the best shot at Cal. Also, complete the pre-reqs (this is very important).

I’m not sure which factor of my application convinced Cal to accept me, but here are my stats (in great detail ;)), mypinkfriday:

GPA: 4.0
Major: Linguistics
IGETC complete after this spring
Pre-reqs: Complete (there are none for linguistics, but I took an Intro to Linguistics course, high-level language courses, and social science courses)
EC: Few! Babysitting, tutoring (~40 hours), Dean’s List, and an activity I dedicated a lot of time to in high school.
Personal Statement: I let only people here on CC read them, after I submitted my application. They said that they are really good. Not outstanding, but really good.
Xtra info: I started community college in Winter quarter 2010 (I got sick and had to cancel my initial SIR to UCSC as a freshman admit), so I’m a 1.5 year transfer. I have 2 APs, no W’s and half of my 'A’s were 'A+'s.

Start your personal statement early! I started writing it last spring and revised it until late November. I can PM them to you, if you want.

@deanza.

OMG stats off the chain.

trying to have a 3.5/3.6 before i transfer. i feel i need to personally ante my skill up in the next year because the level im going to go to is gonna require alot of maturity on my part. i go to a community college where “kids” are still… “kids”, talking in the back of the classroom, disrupting, etc. its a very small town and their is no opportunity or thrive to grow and mature, well there are a very slim few.

but anyways, i would really hope to transfer to davis or berkeley, but more davis, because i dont need too much prestige right now, as im trying to go to UOP in SF after for dental school. if i do go to berkeley tho, i hope to have a library session together in the future!

Hopefully you can get in at Davis. I had a slight lower GPA but I was able to get in at Davis.

^sniff, well it is a bit different because the GPA req have been raised to 3.2 :(

hopefully the incoming TAG transfer OVERALL standards hasn’t been raised as well.
