Congratulations!!! My daughter just accepted to theatre acting program! It’s a happy time!!

Congratulations!

Son was not accepted ED to Film. Received notice on 12/2/19.

Very sorry to hear that @529mom. Is he applying to other schools for film?

Does anyone know when EA decisions come out?

@afeldman4 I have 12/16 as the EA decision date!

Is that official? I’m pretty sure that is when it was last year. I would agree with you though if that is a guess. Late next week or early the week after would make the most sense.

@RidleyBCHS Last year was 12/17 so I think that’s where I got it – the Monday mid-month. I think originally the site just said by the end of December.

From the site:
Applications for admission are reviewed on a continuous basis. This means that your application will be evaluated as soon as all required documents have been received. Written notification of your eligibility for admission will be sent as soon as a decision has been reached and normally no later than April 1 for fall freshmen who apply by January 15. Early Action and Early Decision applicants will be notified in December.

Early Action applications may be accepted, denied, or deferred for further consideration in our regular decision process. All Early Action notifications will be sent by late December.

@momof3co Has to be by December 20th according to the site as well. Is there a chance you might know how many kids of the pool get deferred as well?

@RidleyBCHS USNews has an early admissions rate of 61.4% for LMU (compared to only 47% for regular). I haven’t seen any stats on deferral rate, but last year it looked like several were deferred in film school/screenwriting. Some of those later got accepted in March.

@momof3co To add onto your response, we attended the open house and we asked the head of film about the admission rates for film and tv production. He didn’t break it down between ED, EA and RD, but did say that for production they only admit 100 students and receive 2000+ applications. So approximately a 5% admissions rate into production but no insight unfortunately into what % comes through the different application deadlines. My understanding is screenwriting was similarly competitive.

It depends on the major I guess. I applied as a science major so I don’t think there’s a concern for the intra-major competition. UGA’s EA stats roughly accept 40% and defer 40% where 10% are denied. I know it’s a totally different school but the stats are interesting to compare to. My guess is that there are fewer kids deferred.

Good luck to everyone!

@bewellsw thanks for that info on film production acceptance rate. Not very encouraging - almost as bad as USC and UCLA. But good to know.

LMU film production and other “industry” related programs/majors are really strong and well regarded (and therefore, I’m sure, extremely competitive.) I would imagine, like Tish/NYU and CA/USC the individual acceptance #s for production related programs is much lower than for LMU overall.

@Alyssasmom Congratulations to your daughter!! Can I ask if she was ED or EA?

EA applicants, this is interesting. LMUAdmission on their Instagram posted a photo saying congrats to the ED admits. Someone commented on it asking if anyone knew when EA applicants would hear and someone else replied that she emailed them and they said “before their winter break which is Dec. 13” - so that is interesting if true - could be earlier than last year?

@CAtransplant Like I said probably late next week. Who knows, they could automate it so it does send during their break. I just received an email from LMU around 20 minutes ago discussing about discovering my future at LMU. This is the first directly non application related email I have gotten. This could be good or sent to everyone. Still, I am guessing late next week.
