"LMU Transfers 2010"

@pgawest: Yes, they had to see my spring grades. As I said before, I got a 3.75 in my spring semester. It’s strange that LMU is taking so long to get back to her. I’d call them if I were her.

@elcineman: No, I haven’t been contacted yet by an advisor either. Recently, on PROWL, my transcripts from my previous college says: Transfer Work In History. That means most likely that I’ll hear from the advisor in the coming week. Not so sure it’d be a good idea for you to leave until the 29th, being that the transfer orientation is on August 27th.

I am going on vacation from July 15 through July 29th so it will not interfere with transfer orientation on Aug 27. My Prowl also states transfer in history and grades were put in by registrar’s office on MAY 21st. Where are you transferring from? I’m from New Orleans.

for those who are still waiting to hear from the advisor… I didn’t wait, I just took the initiative and call her myself. She set me up with the appointment following week and I got my class. Note** most of the class are filled by now.

@jon12390, I am kind of in the same shoe as you, I am a transfer this fall in business admin. I went checked out the off campus housing and they are really $$$ since lmu is located in the middle of the rich residential area. I applied for on campus housing and I called them today, they said I am at the bottom of the waitlist F@#^… so I might be looking for a spot off-campus.

@elcineman: oh alright, that’s not too bad. That’s cool yeah, my PROWL says the same thing. I’m transferring from Santa Monica College and I’m from Los Angeles. Are you going to be at transfer orientation? I can’t wait to get started!

@jetblack3s: great advice, I’m going to call my advisor tomorrow. However, I remember reading or hearing somewhere that classes will not all be full, especially the ones that you need in order to satisfy your requirements and graduate. But hey, I might be wrong, I’m having some sort of source amnesia at the moment.

Also, I heard that although off-campus housing is expensive, on-campus housing is even more expensive. To LMU from my place it’s a 45 minute drive, I’m so not down to drive to and from school every day…hopefully I can find some financial aid and get a campus job. Do you know if they accept applicants before school starts? That’d be bomb, I heard they pay very well. Damn, you’re at the bottom of the list for on-campus housing? My friend has a 4-room suite in Rains Hall (sophomore dorms) and said I should come room with him and his homies, I wonder if since we can all request each other, I can leap frog that on-campus housing list. Who knows…are you going to transfer orientation, jetblack3s?

When is the transfers orientation? Is it mandatory? I work during the summer so it depends what day it falls on… I just got my final rejection from USC so I guess I’ll be attending lmu for sure… Cheers!!

Transfers Orientation is August 27. I’m not sure it’s mandatory but I would definitely try to go. It is on a Friday, and school starts the upcoming Monday, on August 30.

Has anyone here transferred/been accepted to LMU with a 3.1 or worse for accounting?

if anyone reads this before transfer orientation…

i transferred to lmu last year and before the semester started i was always on cc in hopes of getting any advice for transferring. so if any of you happen to read this before the semester starts, here are some tips for transfers!

 • Your adventure really begins day 1 - transfer orientation. GO TO IT! You don’t have to stay the whole time, but I’d recommend going to the lunch and meeting your O group, then leave when you feel like they’re covering things about LMU you don’t need to learn again. I met my very best friends at LMU at Transfer Orientation. 2 of them sat at the same table as me at the luncheon and the 3rd was in my O group. (But make sure to branch out beyond transfers, I know it’s easy for all the new kids to stick together)

GET INVOLVED. seriously. this is the best piece of advice i can give you. transferring is hard, especially if you don’t have good friends at the school already. there are plenty of opportunities to join clubs and various organizations on campus. just about every student i know is involved in some sort of extra-curricular activity. i was lucky enough to already be in the greek system before i transferred, and it was a great way to make to friends. so go greek if it’s your thing!

Buy groceries! Food on campus is super expensive and even the salads are pretty high in calories. if that is something you care about, try to buy your food at ralph’s or wherever and make your meals from your apartment, house, dorm, whatever.

Make sure you actually need your books for your class before you buy them. it’s practically impossible to sell your books back for full price, so wait to buy them until you’re sure you need them. if it’s a book you’ll only been needing to use a couple of times, find a friend with a book and make photocopies

BE SOCIAL! This kind of goes along with the “get involved” thing, but it’s crucial if you want to have a good social life at this school. I understand some people aren’t as extroverted or outgoing as others, but there are plenty of opportunities to meet people (like convo). Sig Ep Glow Party is the first weekend of school and that will be a great way to meet people (more than just greeks go to greek events, this is a small school) It will take you forever to make other friends if you only hang out with other transfers! Like I said, most of my best friends at this school are girls I met at transfer orientation, but I made sure I went to as many events and LMU parties as possible my first semester so I could meet as many people as possible. Other transfers I know didn’t do this and still made friends and got involved, but it took them a much longer time. Seriously, go out as much as possible first semester! By the end of my first year at LMU, so many people would come up to tell me that they had forgotten I was even a transfer and that I did the transfer thing right (so listen to me haha)

Keep your grades up! I know being social is important when you’re new, but don’t let your academics fall. Try to get all of your homework done by Thursday because everyone goes to Sharkeez on Thursday nights and that’s really when the weekend begins. Try not take classes on Fridays or at least on Friday mornings if you can help it.

Ummm alright that’s about it! I love LMU and transferring here was the best decision I ever made, so I really want to make sure that incoming transfers get the most out of their experience. I’ll be on campus for rehearsals during transfer orientation, so I’ll see if I know any of the Transfer O Leaders and try to meet some of you, because I know how awkward and foreign it is to be new! Hopefully this helps someone! Feel free to shoot me a message on Facebook if you need anything! My name is Alex Sautter

Hey alex, is there like a student to student forum where Lmu students buy and sell books to each other?

This question is mainly for current LMU transfers, but if anyone thinks they can answer it to the best of their ability then go ahead!

I’m attending Santa Monica College currently in my 2nd year and I want to transfer to either UCLA or LMU as a Communications major. I have all my requirements for UCLA, but I still need to take two classes for LMU and I won’t be able to do so until the spring. Will this seriously hurt my chances of transfering? Also I am not considered a CA resident, does that hurt me as well? My GPA is about 3.8.

Thank you! :)

@nick: That should be fine, most likely since you already have such a high GPA, they’ll accept you straight away. However, if one of the classes you need to take for LMU is important to Communications, LMU may send you a letter saying that they need to wait before accepting you, just to make sure you get at least a “B” in said courses. You should be fine.

Thanks for the reply Jon! Hopefully you’re right! :)

Hi All
The journey for my god daughter started one year ago. She went thru the whole process of going to junior college to get the necessary credit to enter LMU in Fall 2010. She did not get accepted but was told if she goes back to JC and gets a B average in 4 core classes she would be accepted for Spring 2011. She just got accepted on Monday. A dream come true
