Another victim of the financial crisis. There will be a big hole in the shopping center nearby, and a few people out of work, including D’s former classmate who is supporting herself by working at at one of their stores while attending a local community college. Sad…

Ah, I hate to read that. LNT in our area was still open and I had hoped they would make it. We also have a BBBY, but as a consumer, I think LNT is the much better organized store. I’ve been doing my part to support them—every wedding gift I purchased the past year came from there.

Mervyn’s are closing all the stores also. There are so many of them around here, and so many people are going to lose their jobs. I’m going to miss it, I usually bought school uniforms there.

I was at LNT yesterday – very unorganized for a going out of business sale. Everything was 10-30% off, but no one knew what was discounted at what rates. I’m sure they’ll get it together eventually. I’ll go back for the next round of discounts.

My SIL got some great deals when the LNTs in NJ closed. Ours are still OK, but I am waiting for the announcement here so I’ll get the basic dorm stuff (and grad gifts for friends) a little early. Still sad to see them go, it is a much shorter ride for me than BB&B

I was in a LNT last summer that was NOT closing. I have to say…it looked like it WAS closing. The inventory was pathetic, and to be honest, it looked like they had marked UP prices to mark them down. If you plan to buy there, check other vendors to compare prices. You may find the same items for the same or less cost. LNT’s closeouts will NOT be able to be returned…sales are final. 10% off would NOT lure me into a closeout sale…especially with an inventory that already looks “picked over”. That’s my opinion about the LNTs here…yours may be different.

I’m guessing that they were having trouble getting credit–even back then. No credit = no merchandise = no good stuff to sell. It was a slow spiral down.

The LNT is closing near us (has had a ‘going out of biz’ sign for months). The funny thing–the prices (as mentioned above) aren’t all that cheap! 10 % already high-priced linen napkins, and the like. I thought I’d pick up some curtains, but the were still about $60 each…

that’s what I noticed; the store near me advertised 20% off but wouldn’t let me use my coupon with it-so no real savings from usual-and then they told me that all sales were final. I feel like a fool because I bought an area rug which I now can’t return.

Echoing other posts, they’ve been on their way out a very long time…I never understood how they survived as long as they did. Very so-so service, and way overpriced.

I have had a LNT credit for a couple of years that I forget to use; I prefer Bed, Bath and Beyond. When LNT was closing one of my local stores I went to try to use the credit, but the store was picked over. Tonight I decided I needed to spend this credit and soon. Husband and I went on the way to dinner and bought a few things that I would have purchased at BB&B using my 20% off coupons, but needed to spend the credits. I bought a few boxes of Hanukkah candles since they won’t go bad, some grill wipes that my husband likes, an ironing board cover since mine has a hole in it, and new measuring cups. Now I no longer have a credit!!

I hated to spend more since I never go to BB&B or LNT without a coupon; but since they did not take coupons now and I needed to spend the credit, it was the best thing to do.

Snowball – you are lucky you could use your credit. The store near me is not accepting credits at this point. I guess the lesson is that if a store chain is about to be taken over by liquidators, use your credit FAST!

Magneticpoet – they expect this to go fast. I think they’ll be gone well before Christmas. Usually these liquidators come in and the stores close in 30-60 days. Sometimes faster. I think once the deals hit 50% and greater, there’s some fast movement of stock. And when it hits 75-80% – don’t blink!

I am glad I could use the credit, and mad at myself for having it for so long! With two in school I should have used it long ago, but would forget I had it even when it sat in my wallet. I have always liked BB&B better so that is where I would go.

I know when one of my local LNT closed, it only took about a month and a half before the doors were closed for good. I can not imagine any of the stores will be opened in December.

I went to buy some blankets for a trip and the selection was good, but 10%, seriously, that’s a close out? I don’t think so. Everything was still very expensive, I went to TJ Maxx instead.

There are some things I want but don’t need and I might pick them up at half off, but 10%, no way
