Loan Consolidation

We are attempting to consolidate DS’s unsubsidized and subsidized stafford loans. We were working together with this online, and got to a point where we needed to enter the loan…which we did (we did the Federal Direct Stafford/Ford loan…which is what DS has…). We thought the next line would be for the unsubsidized Stafford/ford loan…but it was not. Now we are plentifully confused. The address for the lender was in the same town (Utica NY) but the PO box was not the same as on the envelope we received recently. Honestly, we spent over an hour on this…getting the loan numbers, entering information, and then we got to the point of signing when I said…but wait…we haven’t entered the second loan yet!! Do we need to go through all of this separately for both loans??

Somehow I thought this would not be difficult. Now I’m beginning to wonder.

Thumper, my friend has the same problem, even with same lender as you. She’s so frustrated. When she calls, they tell her to check online. She has both subsidized and unsubsidized loans through the US Department of Education and hit a wall during the application process to consolidate on Nelnet.net because there was only one option to check (subsidized or unsubsidized). She is unable to complete the application process and esign because she cannot complete the portion that requires that you fill in your current loan status.

On the back of our loan statement, there was a phone number for “consolidating loans”. DS called that yesterday and completed the process on the phone. They are mailing him the promisory note to sign.
