I’m very actively involved in local government–I volunteer for them and the mayor and also am getting involved in working campaigns and in programs aimed to increase voter turnout, I’m enrolled in a city program called the Citizens Academy, have graduated from a leadership course led by the Chamber of Commerce, and am just starting to get really active in the local school board.

Is this a hook or at least an appeal, or am I wasting my time? Will Georgetown care? I know we’re supposed to do things we’re interested in or passionate about, but who are we kidding–we also do things because they look good on resumes. My question is, is this one of those things?

it looks good, but its so lame that you’re doing it only for your resume

i would honestly love to get involved…because im actually interest in gov’t. having stuff for resumes is good, but it shouldt be the only reason

I definitely think it looks good on your resume, but depending on what school you are applying to, such as the college or SFS, a lot of others might be using the same activities as their hook (government-related, internships, etc). I would emphasize one of these activities, maybe the one you are most involved in/most enthusiastic about.

Nah, it’s not just for my resume. It’s something I’m genuinely interested in, especially because I want to work in govt administration post-college. It’s just that I devote a lot of time to it that I might be devoting to other activities that I enjoy equally, if it’s not going to be useful.
