Oh…and also,a tornado warning!
@thumper1 any update?
Apparently there was an armed gunman at large…they think. My understanding is the school is still locked down. Students were asked to not return to campus if off campus…and to take shelter.
NO shots have been fired…and no armed person has been found.
Washington Post had a brief update…
Lockdown being slowly lifted.
Rumors circulating that it might have been a prank.
More info to be released later.
But still…what a worry for, those families with students there.
…from colgate.edu:
“After thorough investigation, and with the assistance of the person in question, law enforcement identified the individual as a student who was using a glue gun for an art project, confirmed the misunderstanding, and released the campus from lockdown.”
Isn’t that something. The school was in lockdown for a couple of hours. Why didn’t this student speak up sooner?
Jeez. A glue gun. What’s next – a water pistol?
Because he fled to safety just like everyone else when the lockdown was announced! He was working on an art project-it was certainly a jump for him to come to the conclusion that he was so called “active shooter.”
I googled glue gun and some of the images could easily be mistaken for a real gun, especially by students who have never seen a real gun. Was the student still holding the glue gun when he sheltered?

“…Everyone was safe. There was no gunman, police later determined. But many students were angry when they learned the reason for the alarm: Someone called Colgate’s Campus Safety when they saw a black student who had a glue gun that he was using for a school project…”
“…At noon Tuesday, Brian Casey, the university’s president, sent a message to the campus community saying he had asked for a complete review of the incident. “It is important that we understand the role that implicit racial bias had in the initial reporting of and responses to the events of last night…”
A smaller mention in the article details a college tradition of a torchlight ceremony while people wear robes. Mmm, might be time for that to go the way of the dodo.
Quoting for emphasis:
a glue gun does not look like a real gun and is a commonly used tool. it also has a long cord to plug it in because it needs to generate a lot of heat. and many people use them at work or even for crafting projects. they sell industrial ones and arts and crafts ones . you can probably pick one up at target, any art store and for heavy duty ones hardware stores or industrial suppliers. the statement about tamir rice is just virtue signaling or trying to somehow see themselves as an “almost” victim or some other need to draw themselves into whatever their sociology professors just lectured them about. my office has two glue guns in it along with a carton of glue sticks. they are very handy for certain projects. and very easy to use.
here is the photo f this scary “weapon”

this is what tamir rice had and was pointing at people

Snowball-- the torchlight ceremony you mentioned is for seniors. And the students are wearing their graduation regalia. To even suggest anything else is absurd.
