Okay, on a regular PC…I set up an account with a password. Therefore my brother can access his account in the computer, and I can access my own account in the same computer. I was wondering if I can do that on a MAC. I want to cover it just in case next year in college…someone tries to log on into my account.

of course you can–macs have accounts with password protection as well. i’d say microsoft office is better and more convenient since ıt’s more common-especially in colleges-.

That’s poppycock. It completely depends on the college, and an increasing number of them are becoming Mac-friendly. I know my college has a lot of Macs at its library, and even a Mac-only computer lab, and it’s a small school. Check with your college’s IT department if they recommend a PC over a Mac… if they don’t, get a Mac. You won’t be sorry. It will save you hours of frustration because it’s so easy to use, there are almost no viruses, and it almost never freezes up and does weird crap like that.
Get Microsoft Office for Mac, and read the other thread about a great deal coming up on August 20th.

Nobody here suggested he shouldn’t get a mac, as he already seems to have one or be planning to get one. The suggestion was that he use MS Office, which you seem to agree with.

exactly, hebrewhammer.
oh, and don’t forget to ask your college if they have office for macs that you can install. don’t pay for office before going to college.

Under the Apple Menu, go to ‘System Preferences’, then select the ‘Accounts’ icon, which is in the ‘System’ row at the bottom of the window. Click on the ‘+’ in the lower-left corner to add a new account, then decide what privileges you want to assign to the new user.

Macs do have login as said and i would go with word because i have iwork/pages now and it keeps messing up my .doc files from teachers so i would go with Word.

Yep, you can definitely set up more than one account on the same Mac!

And, look for my threads on MS Office info vs. iWork. I had trouble with that- ended up picking MS Office because you can transfer files between Mac and PC users with friends, so I figured that’d be nice to be able to do.

What the hell? First of all this thread is almost 4 years old, and secondly, why are people trying to take it off topic? Make your own thread in the proper forum and people will be more able to help you.

Does anyone know if Harvard allows to bring in a microfidge from outside the school? I was going to rent one through the school, but there arent any available anymore.
