logistics – Amtrak station at/near Newark airport.

<p>I need help with the logistics of getting to the Amtrak station near the Newark airport. Is there a monorail stop at the train station? Is the station connected to the airport? How long would it take to get from baggage claim to the station? TIA</p>

<p>Yes, there’s a monorail called the AirTrain, and it’s free with your Amtrak ticket (or $5 without). <p>The connection is via a monorail from each terminal (A,B, & C) in the airport, which takes 5-10 minutes. From baggage clain you need to take 2 escalators up to the departure station. At the station, it’s an escalator down to the platform. You need to insert a ticket in the turnstile - NJ Transit size, not sure how Amtrak tickets are accomodated. You need your Amtrak ticket in advance, as I have not seen Amtrak agents at the station, just NJ Transit and not all hours. </p>

<p>Thanks Booklady and nj2011mom. Yes, there is a specific train I plan to take. I will buy the Amtrak ticket online and I have no problem paying $5 to get into the station.</p>

<p>If I don’t have a checked bag (just carrier-on) –is this correct?
I locate the airtrain (an escalator down from main terminal level). Exit the airtrain at the “Airport Station” stop and buy a $5 ticket - which will allow me entry into the train station.</p>

<p>Does the station service both NJ transit and Amtrak? Are there different platforms for NJ transit and Amtrak?</p>

<p>I think the AirTrain access is on the same level as the security checkpoints, but I can’t remember - there are plenty of signs and people wearing red jackets who can direct you. You just get on at the Airport and go through turnstile (to pay) at the train station side. Make sure you get on the train heading to the Amtrak station, as they service all terminals & the remote parking lots - they are well marked, but I’m sure people have ended up going in the wrong direction. (Yes - NJ Transit and Amtrak both use the station - same platforms). There are several platforms, so you need to look at the monitor to see which platform your train will use.</p>
