A couple weeks ago I went to tour Pomona and I also went to the info session. I thought it was really funny that the admissions officer started quoting all kinds of stats that people use to characterize Pomona.

ie. he said not to believe that Pomona loves eagle scouts.

Has anyone had a similar experience where you found out that admin officers go on CC

I interpreted the AO’s comment (as quoted by the OP) more alone the lines of “Don’t expect that you’ll be admitted just because you are an Eagle Scout.” Being an Eagle Scout won’t guarantee admission nor will it be held against an applicant; it’s more of a reality check that Pomona looks at every aspect of each applicant - scores, grades, essays, ECs, etc.

Last year during at orientation Bruce Poch was mentioning some of the incoming class of 2012 accomplishments up to that point and he specifically mentioned one student among other things was an eagle scout. So at least the head of admissions doesn’t hold it against you if you were an eagle scout.

My Eagle Scout is also at Pomona. Bruce is messing with you. ;)

Actually, Little Mother’s interpretation is no doubt correct. They look at the whole person, but I can guarantee that they don’t hold being an Eagle against a kid. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Mr. Poch was a Scout at one time.

But I’m sure that my kid didn’t get in because he was an Eagle Scout.
