Why NBC did not show the scoreboards for gymnastics?

Canada wins silver in men’s 8! Bravo! Defending gold medalists looked very weak in the first race last Saturday, finishing dead last and having to then race in the repechage. To come back and win a silver is impressive. Germany takes the gold and the Brits won the bronze.

Serena Williams xD

I was a little frustrated that I never heard NBC give the final score on the final floor exercise. Since it officially gave them the gold, the celebration overshadowed her individual score. Did anyone catch it? I went online, but I’m not informed enough about the sport to figure out where to find the scoring for each apparatus. I 'd like to know only because it was so outstanding. Well, actually all of them were outstanding yesterday.

Jordyn was certainly a great role model for people to deal with a set back, wasn’t she?

I’m going to be biting my nails for the individual competitions.

In addition to Astaire and Kelly, don’t forget the Nicholas brothers. They were as amazing and athletic as anybody today.

I had the same question, hayden. Also, did I miss something or did we only see two Russian performances on the beam and floor exercise?

Amazing performances from the US women’s team!

Interesting story about how not all athletes are trying their best.

Frazzled - I didn’t notice it on beam, but I def noticed the omission of the last floor routine from the Russian team last night. I’d seen it in the afternoon so I knew what was coming (another terrible fall on a tumbling pass) and was surprised to see it left out.

Because NBC’s coverage sucks.

I really did not enjoy the gymnastics coverage. The close up, faces only of the women running towards the vault, combined with the camera shot that eliminated their legs just ruined the flow. Not every camera shot needs to be a close up. Combined with the missing scores, deleted routines, etc it was very disjointed.

I agree, NBC’s coverage is bad.

NBC - Nothing But Crap…

USA-Gymnastics has it. Here you go.

DonnaL, we have a video thread going and the Nicholas Brothers are on there.

Thanks, Bromfield. I would loved to have seen Tweddle’s parallel bar routine. Plus I love her name - so English.

When you look at the individual scores, it really pops out how totally dominant the USA team was. Unbelievable.

How did y’all say you disagreed with me and then say Astaire was the best? It sort of proves my point. On SYTYCD, they do so many tricks - lots of tumbling moves, lots of crazy lifts - but without any of that, Fred and Ginger still look fabulous. That’s what I would expect from a premier gymnast, too. The tricks may have gotten harder since then, but the grace and beauty would endure (see, for example, Nadia.)

Yeah, I was surprised that the last Russian floor routine was cut. It added to the emotion. I texted my D, “This girl is a beast.” She was fierce and rock solid. I was happy for Russia to go out with a strong routine. Then…at the end of the last tumbling pass, she almost ended up on her head. It was such a shock.

I have yet to see Beth Tweddle’s bar routine at this Olympics. I’ll have to make sure and catch it during the event finals. Last night when they were talking about how GB didn’t have a gold yet, we all said, “Just wait until Bars event finals.”

Lol blueiguana. NBC should never be allowed to cover the olypics again

If Russia’s Komova is on her game, she will be hard to beat in the overall. Did you see the Romanian woman, Ponor, on the balance beam? She was as steady as a rock and, by today’s standards, is much older at 24.

Qualifications taught me that showing things like a full minute of Jordyn Wieber’s tears and various shots of Gabby Douglas’s nostrils are more important than things like Tweddle’s bars. I guess I’m not surprised we didn’t see it in the team finals. I was pretty upset when I found out Afanasyeva’s fx was cut.

Well good thing their contract goes through 2020.

I agree with all the NBC-haters. However, it appears that the network is on-target to break all kinds of records for viewership (and probably ad revenue):

Their main problem is that they don’t show the scoreboard when its a nail-biter moment! Makes me maddd.
