I don’t know what it is about people that must tear others down. I can’t even believe what I am reading - that this beautiful young woman is being torn down. Gabby - you go girl and turn a deaf ear to all this nonsense.

^^^^^She seems like she has a good head on her shoulders. She has the inner confidence needed to blow off criticisms about her hair, her race, etc. I think her fans will probably agonize over this nonsense much more than she ever will.

Gabby is talented and admirable. More than that I love her innocent and smiling face of a child. I guess she does not know politics yet.

Not to change the subject, but I’m catching some track tonight. In the prelims for the woman’s 100M Carmelita Jeter just blew the entire field away! Wow! I can’t wait to see her in the final. What power!

^^^ we just replayed that race twice! She was like a robot! Amazing!

And what about 15 yr old Katie Ledecky winning the 800 M freestyle?? With Missy Franklin being 17, the future of women’s swimming is looking good!!

^It certainly is! They’re phenomenal and a joy and treat to watch :-)

Jeter was incredible…and so embullient.

And I have to say…Jeter has the most amazing arms. Seriously beautiful! (I know this has nothing to do with her talent, but I noticed them when she was getting set in the blocks).

Ledecky was absolutely incredible!!

^What’s more incredible or “superhuman” is she dropped over 5 seconds from her PB in less than one month. She also dropped 15 seconds in the last 6 months. She’s only 15 but almost broke the WR. She needs to be prepared though as suspicion may fly everywhere and people like John Leonard may come out soon to say nasty things like it’s “impossible”. But wait, they would have come out by now. I guess it’s because she’s not Chinese.

So I am glad she can just enjoy all the accolades and congratulations without going through the hell like Ye did.

You honestly sound like you’re chastising the posters here. I know you’re active on the other designated thread of “Olympic cheating: double standard?” I’m not sure why you’re trying to drag an argument over here.

Usain Bolt makes it look so easy.

blueiguana,

I am just letting posters know the double standard of US media when dealing with Olympics athletes. I have nothing against the posters here; most the them haven’t even written anything about it. I honestly don’t appreciate your accusation.

Oscar Pistorius, the double amputee from South Africa, came second in his heat, and is on to the semifinals in the 400m !

The American women are holding their own in the team epee competition! About 2/3 of the way thru the match with South Korea right now, down by only one point! If they win, they will get silver or gold for sure. If they lose, they will fence another match for bronze or 4th place.

Edit: Now they are tied!!!

SL - You have a lively debate going on on the other thread that was created to discuss these types of things. Your post was sarcastic and on the heels of many posters here talking about Katie’s win. It certainly came off as looking for debate here, when the other thread (which has been thriving) was created just for this.

^I was sarcastic about the US media, not the posters here. Many posters here are not on that thread and that’s exactly why I want to let them know. Nothing more, nothing less.

Okay… South Korea won the women’s epee team semi-final match. US team will fence against Russia for the bronze today, so still a chance for them to medal. I suspect the coach (who is D’s club coach) will take some satisfaction even if there is no medal in the end, since the US beat the despised Italians in the quarterfinals. :)

intparent,
If it was mentioned earlier that the coach is your D’s coach I missed that. How cool!! The games are exciting but that adds an extra element of personal excitement!
