London Olympics 2012 - SPOILER ALERT

^I didn’t actually see the whole final., so I don’t really know how she did. I can still judge her choreography though. When two of her biggest competitors falter I’m not really surprised that she won. I’m not alone in my dislike of Raisman. Many of gymnastics fans dislike her gymnastics.

I just entered a code I had for McDonald’s promotion. If USA wins a gold medal in women’s beach volleyball I win a prize. I guess my odds are good, and there’s a possibility of an all-American final. The prize is 40 My Coke reward points. I don’t really buy Coca-Cola products.

Was anyone else surprised by the result of the still rings competition last night (or should I say yesterday)?

I am familiar with women’s gymnastics, not so much with the men’s events. I was surprised that the Brazilian gymnast (last to compete) beat the Chinese gymnast (first to compete). In my experience, I know it is best to go last, as the scores tend to climb. The Chinese gymnast lost by just a tenth. Any opinions–especially by those of you who know more about men’s gymnastics?

For all you moms/dads of absent-minded kids out there, did any of you see the high jump competition when the best jumper in the world couldn’t find his shirt? Oh boy. Between jumps, he took it off and then it was his turn again and he couldn’t find it! Eventually, the official came over and told him he had to take his turn, and graciously allowed him to wear a random t-shirt and to hurriedly help him pin his number from his bag onto the shirt. Eventually, he found it and had it on for his gold medal winning jump.

And yay for the Canadian boy who won one of the three bronze medals awarded in high jump.

alwaysamom, how funny!

Was that the Russian boy, alwaysamom? I didn’t see it yet, but heard that Toledo’s Erik Kynard won the silver medal in high jump.

No medal for Lolo Jones in 100m hurdles.

Yes, toledo, it was Ivan Ukhov. It made me smile. :)

LEO MANZANO!!! I watched him as a high school and college runner (WildChild ran in some meets with him) and now he has won the US’s first medal in the 1500 in forever. Silver. Yay!! And Matt C, his teammate, finished 4th.

It will be a USA v USA womens beach volleyball final.

Ugghh! I am really happy for both teams to have come so far, but I was silently hoping it wouldn’t come to USA vs USA. It feels wrong in the olympics. Yes, I know teammates compete in the olympics all the time, but they are generally in a group of international competitors. It is rarely just one country competing for a gold in the olympics, especially in team sports.

I actually think it’s great and exciting that the USA is guaranteed both gold and silver, especially after the disappointing results on the mens beach volleyball side. Plus I love to watch volleyball.

I win 40 My Coke points! Thanks American beach volleyball players.

Zanetti is really good on rings. He came in second on rings at last year’s world championships. I’m not really surprised that he won this time. I don’t remember Chen’s routine right now so I can’t really compare them.

I’ve noticed large plastic bandages on the backs of some of the Chinese divers and volleyball players. Anyone know why? ( I apologize if this was answered up thread.)

I dislike volleyball (hey, I sucked at it and it was the only sport us Catholic school girls got to play), but I HAAATe beach vollyball. And Misty May.

So I am going to Target until it is over.

PATheatermom, google kinesio tape. It’s used for therapeutic taping.

“No medal for Lolo Jones in 100m hurdles.”

My H is going to be crushed.

That makes sense, Alwaysamom!

So we are a day behind watching the Olympics, and I have to say on rings, China was robbed!

I’m not sure if the NBC broadcast will show this but it wasn’t in the live feed. Apparently after Raisman got her beam score Marta and Bela Karolyi were freaking out in the stands and told Raisman’s coach to protest her D score.

^ They questioned her D score which had been awarded at 6.2, very low for her. Upon review they awarded her a 6.3. The recalculated score tied her for third with Ponor. The tie was broken by the execution value. Aly’s was higher. If you remember she lost the bronze in the AA to a tie break (broken by dropping the lowest score), so she’s been on the other side of this.
