London Olympics 2012 - SPOILER ALERT

Last weekend, Doug Collins was on TV talking about Olympic basketball. And yes, he DID make reference to that infamous '72 game with the USSR. If I will never forget it, no surprise that he can’t either.

Yes, the poor East Germans. Kinda sad really. In their hearts they probably wanted to be Germans but they were stuck being something else, because their country was a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Soviet Union.

We’re on the same wavelength as The Onion:

Back to the insults, how sad.

I admit that the humor of *The Onion *is not to everyone’s taste. My son and I think it’s very funny and the rest of our family, not so much.

Loved David Rudisha winning last night. Such a great story and loved what I learned on NBC last night!

Ryan Lochte said on the Today Show that he wants to move to LA and star in reality TV. Either Dancing with the Stars or The Bachelor! That might be some TV I would watch lol!

Watching the open water swim. BIL did a 10k open water one year. Crazy training! I can’t imagine. Really admire the dedication for something no one pays attention to.

I was just on the website for the London Paralympics. If you click on each sport, they have embedded videos that shows the sport in action. Pretty amazing.

Yes, The Onion is just a barrel of laughs. They print high level journalism like this:

[Phelps Drowns | The Onion - America’s Finest News Source](Phelps Drowns)

There is no disclaimer anywhere, no mention that this is a joke, nothing. It is accompanied by a picture of ‘Phelps’ floating, face down in a pool. Excellent. I would be in the camp that fails to see the humor.

I think the Onion is great.

I liked this from the Phelps story.

“Sources confirmed Phelps appeared as if he was desperately trying to swim to the shallow end of the pool, but toxic amounts of water filled his lungs before he was able to do so.”

I’m a big fan of NPR and once the Onion had an article that I found very funny about the demise of public radio. I sent it to a friend who also likes NPR and he also didn’t see the humor, thought it was real.

But we digress.

David Rudisha has elevated his event. This morning I heard that even the last place finisher in the 800m yesterday would’ve won the event in 2008. Given that and what a humble person he seems to be, it’s no wonder that his competitors were genuinely happy for him.

With all of the drama surrounding the games…here is something just for laughs!

[1988 Paul Hunt gymnastics comedy beam routine - YouTube](<a href=“1988 Paul Hunt gymnastics comedy beam routine - YouTube”>1988 Paul Hunt gymnastics comedy beam routine - YouTube)

Paul Hunt was great.

I like the splits on the bottom side of the beam.

“The Onion” needs no disclaimer. It is “The Onion.” I thought the Phelps piece was funny, but there isn’t much “The Onion” does that I don’t find funny. They don’t cross the line because there isn’t one.

Beauty pageants. Yes, that’s a good insight. Now that I think about it, there is something about women’s (which has very few actual women; they’re nearly all girls) gymnastics that reminds me of those weird beauty pageants for little girls.

Did you not know it was from the Onion? It’s a satire magazine. If you are reading The Onion, whatever you are reading is a joke.

I just want to throw this out here to see if anyone views rhythmic gymnastics differently after your first glance. Rhythmic gymnastics is incredibly corrupt. Results are heavily influenced by politics. I wouldn’t bother looking at the scores since they’re not an indication of how well each gymnast performed.

So I don’t really take it seriously because of the corruption and the fact that it’s even more poorly managed than artistic gymnastics.

I felt so bad for Shanaze Reade in BMX. She had such a strong chance of medaling in her home country but ended up finishing fourth.

SS, worse than figure skating used to be?

True. The best gymnast didn’t even make the Olympic team, all due to politics, I’m convinced.
