I’m with you betievt.

They did a great job! And I loved the closing ceremony. Particularly the Freddie Mercury sing-along, and “Always look on the bright side” Good memories.

They should have cut out all the nonsense prior to the athletes entering. A montage of videos and photos shot and filmed by the athletes throughout the past two weeks would be better than anything I saw this evening.

After two weeks of celebrating the grace, power, strength, speed, effort and work of the athlete, to watch giant billlboards of models in sexy poses paraded around is appalling.

I prefer not to nitpick and criticize relentlessly…I enjoyed the closing ceremonies…not every moment, but for the most part, I was entertained. Couldn’t help but love the “Always look on the bright side of life…” part.

And as the mother of daughters, I got a major kick out of the Spice Girls. Back in the day, I had two very young girls who had the time of their lives at a Spice Girls concert. :)

Did anyone else see Prince Harry singing “always look on the bright side…” Classic.

^^^^Yes. Cute.

I loved it - it was fun which was the intent. The athletes all appeared to be having an absolute blast.

The models (while I found that part boring they were top fashion models such as Kate Moss) were supposed to represent British fashion in line with the rest of the show being about all things British - British music, British comedy, British cars etc.

It was supposed to be a party and it looked like it was for everyone there.

Did anyone else think Posh Spice looked just a little terrified in the part where they were standing on the top of the taxis?

I’m an 80’s kid and didn’t realize most of my favorite 80’s music hailed from Great Britain.
I liked the nod to John Lennon. They could’ve ended the show there. It was very moving.

Well done, London!

They bracketed the show with The Beatles, Paul at the opening and John at the close. Too bad Ringo wasn’t there. Queen, btw, I believe has the top selling album in British history and had the top selling album of any given year until Adele’s 21. Made sense they had Freddy on the screens. Loved seeing The Spice Girls. My kids loved Spice World and the positive messages of Girl Power.

Sad. I missed my favorite event, the singles synchronized swimming. Who won?

Singles synchronized swimming was removed in the 90s.

^^ not being smart but…

How do you synchronize a single?

Yeah, it’s a hilariously oxymoronic name. If you’ve ever seen synchronized swimming, imagine that, just with one person and no lifts. That’s the best way I can describe it.

My overall impression of the games is this: Base on gold medals won, US is performing up to her usual high standards; Britain is overachieving; China underperforms; and Australia falls out of bed for some reason.

Curious how other members here see it.

Thought it was a fun show. Quite surprised with Take That appearance. :)

Did NBC ever show The Who? I saw the coverage break off without so much as a goodbye to show the new pet vet show…checked back later and it was local news…checked back later and saw a couple of athlete interviews, then Bob Costas’ farewell and montage. Since the event was not broadcast live, they certainly could have edited it (axed the models, for example) to finish the whole thing before the pet vet show.

missy, I didn’t bother staying up to see Part 2 so can’t answer.

Did anyone catch Costas saying how since Rio is only 1 hour ahead that would solve “their” problem?

Def thought Posh looked awkward riding on top of the taxi - they all did to a point and for good reason - on top of a fairly fast moving taxi in heels - yikes!!! The Spice Girls did make me smile.

Now I’m not very “up” on the music politics but while I know they just finished their tour a night or two ago, I was a little surprised to NOT see Coldplay perform - they are awesome in a party atmosphere and aren’t they all British???

The broadcast of The Who performance began at midnight. If you tuned in during Costas’s closing words you missed the the performance.
