London School of Economics (for master's degree) -- anyone with thoughts or experience?

It looks my son will be attending the London School of Economics in the fall, for a master’s degree in economic development (I think that’s the field). He has been admitted to some similar programs in the US (but he was rejected from his top choice, Harvard). The London program is less expensive and it is only one year whereas the US programs are two.

The only concern (probably mine more than his–but this is the parents’ forum) is how the degree would look to US employers, particularly govt agencies or private research/think tanks.

Is this anyone’s area? Or have any of your kids gone to LSE for a master’s degree?

A friend of mine went to graduate school at LSE. It’s top notch, no employer who knows anything would look down on it at all. London is also a great city!

I have a former student who did a master’s there and has gone on to a fine career in the states.

My d took summer classes there and loved it. LSE has a world wide reputation, I wouldn’t worry about it. Congrats to your son!

Mathildamae - I will be following this thread as my son will be finishing his master in electrical engineering next year and then plans to apply and attend LSE for their masters in finance program (though we prefer he would do the econ/finance) What an exciting time for you and your son!

Stay for the PhD. They have the coolest regalia. (And truly, it is a wonderful school of high renown.)

We have a friend from church who I think is doing 1 year masters program at LSE. She has been enjoying UK.
