Co-worker headed to JFK Airport today for vacation in London. Uncertain if they will be able to land. Her mother in South Africa has been trying get to London for a week.

My kid is in the air on her way to the US. She has not had major problems fortunately. So sorry for others. I hope they will be on their way as soon as possible.

Update on my kid…another happy ending

D got to Heathrow super early, taxi ride was only 35 minutes. Heathrow initially wouldn’t let her in, only people within 4 hours of departure are allowed in. She begged and said she wanted to try for earlier flight. Got in.
Was put on standby for earlier flight to Toronto, and given a confirmed seat Toronto to LAX, with a good connection time in case of delay. Her booked flight would have gone thru Calgary, with short connection time…might have required overnight.
She got on the TO flight…which is landing about now. Flight departed only 40 mins late so she will be in time for LAX flight.

She said all the standbys got on. It’s worth to inquire because there are no shows and so much switching around.
Have no idea where her luggage may end up, since they had to rush standbys thru security in minutes to get to the gate. At this point I don’t care…bags will eventually turn up.

Terminal 3 lines and security were fine, everything went smoothly.

Happy for all the others who are also finally getting home!

Several years ago, my 15 yr old D spent the summer in Kenya visiting her grandmother in a very tiny village (no electricity, no running water, etc). On the way home, she missed her flight in Nairobi and was told it would be two days until she could get on another flight. D says she just went up to the ticket counter and started crying, saying “I just want to get out of Africa!” Apparently, the ticket agent took pity on her and next thing we know we get a call from D saying “Guess what? I’m in Munich!” We had to spring for a hotel room in Munich for a night, but as D said “At least they have indoor plumbing!”

Moral of the story: Crying in front of the ticket agent sometimes works!

Best wishes and prayers for everyone who’s kids are still traveling!

GREAT news, Sequoia!!! I will pass it on to my D - she will be so happy to hear!

Sequoia - So glad to hear your D will make it home for Christmas!

^ thank you alamemom and showmom! D is in Toronto now, am talking to her…free wifi there. She has a 3 hour wait. Alamemom, I hope your D has recovered fully from her incredible ordeal.

Sequoia, so happy to hear that she’s had good luck today. If I weren’t awaiting houseguests at the moment, I’d have been happy to head over to the airport and buy her some lunch. I’ve done that twice for CC kids! Glad that she’s got her laptop so she can have something to do while waiting her connecting flight. Fingers crossed that her later flight will leave and arrive on time!

Yay Sequoia!

My D got note that it’s down to about 20 of her classmates still in London (from 130) and most are hoping to get out today.

Good wishes for all still trying to get home!

alwaysmom…that is so sweet…I just told D, and she is very touched.
D is talking to her friends right now, she will be fine…as long as she doesn’t fall asleep! She only had 2 hours sleep last night …the goodbyes were long!

Thanks gosmom…I hope your D’s classmates get home very soon!

Slowly but surely they are all making their way home—safely.

We are back home with our traveling D in tow. All went smoothly after two days of travel. Great to finally see her. Now, the next one flies home Friday night, but that is much less involved (or at least it is supposed to be).

We have one flying across country today. Hopefully no snags. Flight arrives this evening. Hope the plane doesn’t run into Santa’s sleigh.

Does anyone know how departing flights to Europe from JFK have been this week? DD is away and her gifts are (generously) being delivered by a friend who is traveling there. We hope his travel plans went smoothly. I think he was scheduled to leave on Wednesday but I don’t know his travel route. He was flying on United…then off to Africa from wherever. I hope he got where he was supposed to get.

Whew…DD arrived safely in Denver last night from Zurich via Philadelphia. No problems. However, a friend’s daughter, who was also on the Zurich to Philly leg, had a different Philly to Denver flight, and it was delayed about six hours. Long day for her, but at least she is home safely!

Oh gosh, so sorry to hear about everyone’s travel hub bub
Should definitely get some travel insurance that covers flight cancellations when you’re traveling in winter weather climates. [Travel Insurance Blog, Tips and Fun!](http://www.travelinsurance.org) has a good article about what coverage is best for travelling during winter. Hope that helps and hope everyone finally makes it where they’re going soon :)
