Long Island visit suggestions?

I’m going to be in NYC for a few days at the end of the week. I’ve done some sightseeing in NYC before and would like to visit someplace else for a day trip. Any suggestions of towns or places to see on Long Island? I won’t have a car, so I’m hoping to find some places that I can get to by train.

Coney Island or Jones Beach would be an eye opener.

You can take the Hampton Jitney to any of the Hampton towns–not sure if a day trip would be enough though.

hey mike,

the long island rail road has a number of day trips. Have a great time

appreciate it!

Im a Long Islander.Sybbie’s link would be the best bet for you to “do” LI without a car.Its a notoriously hard place to get around without a car.Bus service is ineffecient.
Infact,Sybbie, thanks for the link…its great for out of town guests who may not want to drive once they are here.
The end of this week (after today…lousy weather) is slated to have some good but cooler weather (70’s-low 80’s,lots of sunshine, lower humidity)
Enjoy your stay. Its a bit early in the year for the vineyards, fall is better for that area. Hamptons/Montauk would make a nice one day trip on the LIRR at this time of year.

mike,

if you are in NYC july 10-14 orf July 17-21, take advantage of NYC summer restaurant week. Pricing: $24.07 lunches, $35 dinners
