Long shot?

Hi, my biggest dream is to be accepted into Stanford University, but I guess that’s what everyone says on here. These are all of my accomplishments and current standings as a Junior in high school. Please feel free to tell whether or not I have a good chance of getting into Stanford. Thanks very much.

-4.0 GPA (unweighted)
-780 for French SAT test and 1680 on SAT (which is definitely going up, I can assure you)
-Only Junior taking 3 AP classes (Everyone else is taking 2,1, or 0) (total by graduation will be 9-10)
-Ranked #1 for class
-Essay was chosen from a pool of 600 to be in published book
-1st place in Arkansas Junior Academy of Sciences (Physics)
-Straight A’s every year
-Attended famous high school in Arkansas, but am now in a DoDDS school in Germany
-NHS, French club (VP), MUN, Brain Bowl
-Was in Beta club, Junior Civitan, Film club, Arkansas Young Artists, and Debate club, (my new school does not offer these)
-play Soccer and Horseback riding
-Honorable Mention at Arkansas State Science Fair (Physics)
-Red Cross volunteer
-Will have four years of foreign language by Graduation

I’m working on getting a lot more volunteer hours this year and the next. My old school lacked in volunteering oppurtunities, but presently, I volunteer at the local military hospital. I have not signed up for any summer programs. Is this a disadvantage? And I also plan to apply for financial aid. Please be honest in your rating of me and absolutely comment on any areas where I seem to be lacking.
Thank you very much!

I should also add the fact that I received first place in my school for the Voice of Democracy program which has not concluded yet. In addition, I am wholly interested in pursuing a neuroscience major.

Did you apply for RSI? DoDDS has a designated slot. If you didn’t know about it, scold your guidance department for not making it available to you!

How in the world were you able to pull off a 780 in French when you haven’t even finished your third year of French yet? (I assume, since you say 4 years of FL by the time you graduate.)

I have a pretty good idea of what school you attend and 2009 had a student there accepted at Stanford and Harvard. My daugher at a different DoDDS Germany school was accepted at MIT and Harvard. So being in a DoDDS school should not hurt you at all. My daughter was in DoDDS for all of her schooling, except K, so no matter what some people say, you can and will get a good education in DoDDS if you work hard.

You are doing the right thing taking lots of AP courses, and hopefully you will do well in them. Do what you like rather than what you think they want, and know that there are many, many students who are fully qualified for these schools and are not accepted. Be sure to apply to safe schools, too. There is no such thing as only one school being the right fit. Good luck!
