Looking at Rice or Carnegie Mellon

I’m looking at these two schools and at the present moment I have only taken my SAT I and SAT IIs once and without any preparation. I am a white male going to a public high school in Texas.

Here are my academics:
Unweighted GPA: 4.00
Class rank: 1/778

Test Scores:
SAT: 2030
Reading: 640
Math: 670
Writing: 720
Subject tests:
Math 2: 690
Physics: 690
Chemistry: 670

Extracurricular Activities:
Varsity Soccer
Select Soccer
National Honor Society
German National Honor Society
Active Eagle Scout

How much will preparation help SAT scores and what are my chances of getting into these universities?

Wow… without preparation you got 2030?! Damn, you’re pretty smart. If you actually study, I think you’ll get 2200+. Also preparing for the SAT ll’s, I think you’ll get 730+. I hope you have some leadership roles in those extra curricular activities because they will really help. Community service is also important. You will need good recommendation letters, good interview, and a good essay to boost your chances. Good luck :)

where in texas are you?
I assume, Houston?
