Hi. I am looking for a faculty member who would be interested in supervising a Master’s thesis on any one of the following topics:

A comparison of the prevalence of various “patient-harming tendencies” (i.e. psychological characteristics/disorders which may lead to unnecessary patient harming) among North American healthcare professionals, with that in the general population.

A comparison of the prevalence of patient abuse in healthcare, with that of customer abuse in non-healthcare industries.

A comparison of the prevalence of negligent patient care by healthcare workers, with that of negligent customer service by workers in non-healthcare industries.

Economic analysis of power relations between patients and healthcare providers.

Obviously, I’d be willing to apply to any appropriate Master’s program. And I’ll have an MPA by the time I apply. Thanks.

As a bit of advice, this is far too specific a question to have a good chance of success on CC. There are not many faculty on here, and probably not any researching these things looking for a new masters candidate. If you are looking for advice on how to find an advisor, we could perhaps help, but this is like walking into a hardware store and yelling out “I need these four proprietary parts for a unique Bulgarian-made deep-sea drilling rig manufactured 37 years ago!”… it’s not likely to be on the shelves.

Maybe kick off your research career with a lit search? Who’s publishing in these areas? Do they seem to be coming from only a few universities or groups? What kinds of settings seem to be supporting research in these areas? Do they have viable masters programs? Research.

This is generally research you should be doing yourself. Do a literature search on PubMed within these fields and see who’s writing articles on these issues. Visit the webpages of appropriate programs (like health services research MPH programs) and check out the faculty members’ areas of interest. If you want to go to graduate school, you need to do the legwork.
