Looking for a great fit LAC

YAY! So happy that things have worked out with admissions. Here’s hoping for a killer FA package that covers everything you need and then some!

@prezbucky Most obnoxious post ever.

I’m a native Wisconsinite. I love our accent. haha

Hooray!!

Congratulations to your daughter! I hope the FA works out as anticipated. St Olaf is a lovely school, such kind people. My daughter made a different choice but St Olaf was in play until nearly the end and I was sorry to see it fall off the list.

Congrats to your daughter!

Wonderful news. Best wishes to her for an incredible college experience.

I’ve been following this thread for quite some time. Our daughters are quite similar in makeup and she has applied to many of same schools. She is a regular decision candidate at Grinnell, Macalester and St Olaf. She has acceptances in hand from Knox, Augustana College and Lawrence. We think she’ll end up at Lawrence or Grinnell. St Olaf is a beautiful Campus and a vibrant and caring community with excellent science programs. I have no doubt that your daughter will thrive there. Here is a toast to you and your daughter. You are a wonderful and caring mom and Inwish nothing but the best for both of you!

@megawillmae congratulations on the awesome acceptances. We will be sending positive thoughts for Grinnell. I love Grinnell, it’s a great school. I’ve formed some friendships with a few parents of accepted students there. The parents are amazing and their kids are amazing. You’ll find a close, tight knit, active community. I believe it really wasn’t the best fit for my D at the end of the day, and I trust the judgment of the admissions board, who also didn’t feel like it was the best fit at the time, but her Grinnell AO actually suggested St. Olaf for my D, they have been so vested in her journey as well. I will always be awed by the school.

My late father’s wife is still a very active alumni, she’s there several times a year helping with events. Her Grinnell peers, and the school itself are very much a part of her life, all these years later It’s a life changing experience.

I’ll be anxious to hear how things turn out for you.

Thank you so much for the warm wishes!!!

@Momof2girlsandafrenchie I’ve been following this post for the past couple weeks (I was admitted to St. Olaf 30 years ago and used to live in KC - although I attended a different LAC - so I’ve been following your daughter’s journey with interest). Congrats!! This is wonderful news! You’ve done a great job of taking the helpful advice many have posted here (and not allowing the infrequent “less than helpful” input discourage you). I’m sure your daughter will thrive at St. Olaf. Good luck on this exciting journey!

Unlikely.
CC operators are standing by to address future questions about laptops, internships, study abroad, grad school, or your daughter’s roommate-from-hell problem.

All the same, congratulations!

@tk21769 LOL Thank you! I hope I can begin to give back. @nukesmom Thank you for the warm wishes. I love hearing from another KC native.

I have so many people I should be thanking personally for all the well wishes. You guys are the best.

We were able to activate her admitted student account and we’re still trying to see her FA package. It’s there, I believe but the system is acting weird.

I don’t know if it’s one of those things we should just leave alone for a few hours now that it’s activated or if we are doing something wrong. I’m sure my questions will begin there.

Thank you everyone for reading my musings and let me “speak” my thoughts out loud.

We have been so very blessed to have the outcome we’ve had because that last week of November, we knew nothing. We hadn’t planned and prepped for this journey. I don’t know where I would be without this community, and I don’t know where my D would be, because I was ill equipped to guide her.

This journey has truly been a collective effort.

There are a handful of very very special people who have given us so much time, and energy and guidance, that you don’t see on this thread. I’d really like to thank them publicly but need their permission.

And all of those that have stuck with and cheered us on…I can’t even begin to express my gratitude.

This is a success story and example of what happens when parents come together. I really want to continue to do that in a way that contributes while still asking questions that I’m sure will have some people banging their head against a wall.

Many heartfelt congratulations! Your openness, and willingness to listen and learn, was so impressive throughout this process. Often people on CC seem to be looking for validation of decisions already made, but you were open to the advice of others, listened, learned, considered, weighed, and moved forward in the way that was best for your family. You and your daughter are truly a CC success story!

Wonderful, wonderful! Wishing your daughter the very best college years ever!

@Momof2girlsandafrenchie that is terrific news! Fingers crossed aid is what it needs to be and you guys can move on to the next phase, and she can enjoy the rest of high school!

CONGRATULATIONS! Very excited for you and your daughter. Hoping for a great FA package and that she gets up there and loves it.

CONGRATULATIONS! That’s fabulous news. It sounds like a great fit for your girl. You both rocked this process.

Oh. my. goodness… in my heart I knew she’d be accepted, but it’s great to hear it’s official. Congratulations to you and your daughter!!! I just spoke to my daughter today – she loves St. Olaf this interim, even more than she did first semester. The coursework, the students, the friendliness, the caring administration, the choir – and did I say the students?? Her friends are from all over the country and all over the world – yes, it’s cold, but to her it feels like a diverse school with an international presence, not a regional LAC, despite the relatively high percentage of MN residents. PM me if you or your daughter have any more STO specific questions!! I hope the FA package works out for her.

And congrats again!!

Congratulations!!

Will your daughter be able to visit soon?

Fantastic news! Hope the package arrives as expected (I’m sure it will).
