reaching out to my parents as i know that some of you have inquired about teaching positions for your kids. i know someone who is looking to hire a SPED teacher (I asked to give me a chance to reach out to my people). Looking to hire teacher in feb. 2014 (may be provisional until June but full time in sept).

Person must be NYS licensed to teach students with disabilities grades 7-12 since it is a high school position.

Bumping this up for you and asking a question.

In NYS, do SPED secondary teachers also have to hold subject area certification?

Lastminutemom, in NYS 7-12 special Ed teachers get their certification at the master’s level and often have a subject specialization, but there is an alternate path.

Yes, but it does not matter to this principal what the subject area certification is as long as they are certified to teach SPED at the grade 7-12 level (this is for a high school position). He is willing to take a brand new non-doe person as long as they are certified.
