looking for carpet opinions!

Finally getting around to replacing the existing carpet in two rooms at my house.

My living room, hallway, and upstairs two bedrooms are hardwood.

These two rooms are bedrooms on the first floor. One of which I sleep in and the other is used as a home office. Looking to keep with the carpet for them due to furnace being right below and the carpet giving some extra sound barrier.

The walls in the bedroom are a light to medium grey, but the lighting isn’t too good in there. The walls in my office are red on the bottom, off white on the top with a white chair rail separating them.

Both rooms have white ish trim, closets, doors and radiator covers.

I’m leaning towards a grey carpet. I’m stuck between a light, medium, and dark grey.

Pros and cons

Dark…absolutely love the look of it… hides dirt… but may make the rooms look smaller and darker… also dark carpet seems so show lint and things like that easier… I honestly think it needs vacuumed more often

Medium… color looks ok, kind of best of both worlds, but it’s exactly the same color as my bedroom wall color and I don’t think nothe room would look great all in the same shade???

Light… looks ok, lighter then the wall color, but shows dirt easily and light colors scare me… I was one of those kids who dumped everything known to man kind on my parents carpet and I’m not that much more coordinated now, heh.

Please note, my furniture in both rooms is all black.

Any body have any opinions on these colors? It’s so much money and I’m afraid of picking wrong and changing my mind.

I could pick a completely different color, but I really like the grey color scheme.

I’d google gray carpet bedroom and head off to Houzz - there are a number of pictures that come up that have black furniture with various shades of gray carpet. Maybe that will help you visualize what you have in mind.

that’s a great idea. I’m afraid with the grey walks and black furniture it will look like a dungeon, lol!

If you can find a grey carpet with some color flecks in it the lint won’t show as much. Solid color carpet shows every little bit of white fluff there is.

I had dark blue carpet before… it showed every piece of white fluff and every blonde hair that fell off my head. I’m a girl and we shed. Lol

I probably shouldn’t comment because I detest carpet in general, but one of the few I can tolerate is berber. And I think it is less likely to show every little thing.

As Consolation, I detest most carpets, but I actually do not mind the color of our carpet. It is by Mohawk, and the color is “Frozen Pond”

In 13 years it never needed a major cleaning. And SpotShot cleaned up cat barf and red wine off it quite nicely.

ETA: the link may not show the right color - arrrgh about these mobile sites!

I have a room right now that is dark gray, and another one that is dark green and cream, and another that is red (don’t ask.) I am thinking beige carpets throughout. I’d do a cream or white but I don’t dare, beige seems like a good compromise. I’d either get the light with color flecks (my bedroom carpet is cream with color flecks and doesn’t show anything), or I’d get medium and then repaint the bedroom if it doesn’t look good. Or I’d just get beige.

We had a grey carpet in our old house called Starry Starry Night. It was a medium grey with pin dots on it in a lighter grey. They barely showed. But, we had a beige cocker spaniel, and those pin dots were enough to hid any hairs he shed…which were a LOT. It was a solid color…but had that pin dot. I don’t think they make it any more, but you could check.

A medium grey will look nice with your black. Add a splash of color with your bed linens, and the like!

Ema, the carpet right now is a beige color. When I bought this house it was throughout the whole thing, and every wall was beige as well in the whole house. I think I picked a medium color grey with a lighter grey fleck in it. Going to think it over for another day or so
