My daughter is a junior looking for a Christian school with a good political science program. She has a 28 on her ACT and a 3.85 unweighted GPA I know those scores will not get her much scholarship money but we do need some financial aid. We have looked at Grove City and Hillsdale. Wheaton is too expensive for us as is Westmont. I am open to reading up on any ideas. She would prefer a smaller school but is open. Thanks !
Perhaps Ohio Northern in Ada Ohio. It’s affiliated with United Methodist Church. They have political science and she should be eligible for some scholarship money. They have a pretty comprehensive NPC so you can check it out. It is a nice campus but Ada is pretty much in the middle of flat farm country. It is tied for #6 in USAs Midwest Regional Colleges.

Hillsdale College is a great choice! Not only will your daughter be eligible for merit scholarships, I bet she’ll get a lot in financial aid, as their FA department is VERY generous and helpful. She can also apply for athletic/music scholarships, which are determined by ability and potential for growth in those extracurricular fields. I’ll be attending Hillsdale come this fall and most likely major in politics and music with a minor in journalism, and I could not be more excited. I hope your family is successful in the college search!
Blessings,
Megan Kerr
Hillsdale was a good fit on paper but not so much in person during our visit. Any other suggestions for good Christian schools under 3,000 kids? Calvin was a good visit but I would like more than a couple of schools for her to apply this winter.

What were your thoughts on Grove City?
Hillsdale, Hope, Calvin, Wheaton IL and Grove City are among the best.
Check out Gordon, Samford?
Does your definition of “Christian” exclude Catholic schools? Because Notre Dame, Holy Cross, and of course Georgetown are among the best; her act would be a problem at ND and Gtown though.
Have you looked into Pepperdine? PointLoma?
Another possibility is to investigate Christian Life at your flagship.
We found Grove City to be very impressive. Daughter is going back for an overnight soon. Our guide was a senior working on a senate election campaign. Very interesting to hear his thoughts.
I will look into Gordon and Samford. Calvin and Hope are too close to home for her. Hillsdale was not a good fit for her on our visit. She liked Wheaton a lot so she hopes she will be accepted there and she likes Grove City. She now has a 30 ACT after retaking and a 3.9 unweighted GPA. (We know its not worth it to apply at ND or Georgetown with her scores.) For our state schools she really does not want anything that huge. She hopes to be around 5,000 students or less. Thanks for the suggestions!
Have friends who love Azusa Pacific. Not familiar with aid or poly sci there.
She may have a shot at Holy Cross (MA). REALLY strong for political science, clearly Christian (Catholic but all denominations are represented). She can apply with the 3.9 GPA and with or without test scores.
Pepperdine may be another realistic possibility with the new ACT score and top GPA.
Messiah has a good reputation. You can visit in one day alongside Eastern and LaSalle in Philly.
If she wants to get into local politics, attending the state’s flagship or a university in the state’s capital after checking the Christian offerings (CRU, FCA, pastors and churches nearby…) is another excellent choice.

Hello! I think your daughter should look into TCU. It has outstanding academics and a great Political Science program. Your daughter has solid grades that make it reasonable to consider TCU. I know a student who got a full scholarship. Does your daughter participate in any extra circulars?
Another good option would be St. Edwards, also in TX. It is a good school in the Holy Cross tradition. Your daughter could get a PS Bachelor of Arts. It is also a good price point.
Truman State in MO is a good option too! It has a great PS program if you want a Midwest school.
Some reach schools known for Political Science include: American University, Smith College, Wesleyan, and Haverford.
