This will be my second time applying to schools as I took time off after high school, but in my light searching I never found a school I was particularly excited about so I need some new ideas.
I have a trust for college, so cost isn’t a huge factor at this initial searching point at least, but also not trying to pay 50k a year…
I’m undecided at this point, but I’m looking at a Marketing or Communications major, possibly with a minor in Spanish and/or videography.
I graduated hs in 2015 with a 3.58 GPA. I didn’t take AP because my school didn’t offer any, but it was a very small, private school and the classes were challenging.
I scored 1810 SAT and 28 ACT.
I want to go a medium or large-ish school, where my being a little older (20/21) when I’m a freshman won’t stand out too much. Preferably in or near a big city, but with a complete campus, not like where the city is the campus, if that makes sense. I grew up in the midwest, so I probably wouldn’t be comfortable in a very very liberal school, but I also don’t want to go somewhere super conservative-something halfway would be nice. This is a little random, but I would also love to study abroad at some point.
I live in Iowa, but I always thought it would be cool to go to school in California, because I have family there, but I’m not set on it.
I have a few schools in mind but I’m just curious what suggestions I’ll get, and try to find some more good matches.

California publics will cost anywhere from $40K/year to $55K/year not including travel expenses. You might want to target some Private schools. Take a look at Chapman University, Loyola Marymount, Whittier College, University of Redlands and University of La Verne in Southern California. Some of these schools are more Suburban not Urban but near larger cities.
UNC Wilmington. Great for marketing and communications, perfect for students like you. Medium-sized, beautiful campus, wonderful tight-knit community. Ten minutes from the beach as well!! Also, campus leans left of center, but you’ll find all types of political beliefs here.
Okay, thanks for the info. I worked the first year I took off, and this fall I am starting a one year course to become a licenced esthetician. Then I am looking to go to college next fall.
U of Nebraska?..they have a good Advertising & Public Relations program. Financially it would be well within your limits…and if u can bump that ACT up to a 29 you will likely get a scholarship that will pay $14,500 per yr, bringing total cost down to under $20k per year. Lincoln, with almost 300,000 people, is a nice-sized city.
Retaking the ACT or SAT when a student has been out of high school may not provide more merit.
Please tell us more…do you want a quiet campus or a “rah rah” spirited-big-sports school?
Alabama would accept you and may give you a small merit scholarship for your ACT 28. Gorgeous campus, strong business school, big sports to watch, has liberal, conservative and moderate students.
Wouldnt Syracuse be tough to get under the OP’s max of $50k per year? She prob isnt going to get need aid, and most merit would be from publics that have pretty definite cutoffs based on test scores…kentucky, kansas, w. Virginia, ok. State.

Yeah I remember when I was a senior I worked really hard to get my 19 math score up to 24 for my second act and that bumped my score up a lot but after being out of school I don’t think I’d do much better, it’d take a lot of preparation.
I definitely want to go to a school with a football team and lots of school spirit but not a crazy party school like my state public university (Iowa). My hs had no school spirit so I want to experience that.
