I’ve been looking for medium sized colleges with private bathrooms for freshman that are good for bio/pre med. I’ve only found University of Alabama at Birmingham so far. Are there anymore colleges with private bathrooms that are good for bio/pre med?

I know a few friends at Albany College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences who have bragged about each dorm room having its own bathroom. It’s a good school for bio & pre-med, but it lacks prestige and it’s pretty unknown outside of NY. Though, I’m not sure of its standing with med schools.

Do you need a private bathroom for medical reasons, or simply because of personal desires? You’re likely not going to be able to find a private bathroom, but you can probably find a suite style dorm where you share the bathroom with only 2-6 other guys/girls. I believe Wash U St. Louis, UCLA, Loyola Maryland, and a number of other schools offer this option

It’s for personal reasons. Suite style dorms are fine as long as it’s not with too many other people like one bathroom for 2 is fine. I’m just having a hard time finding some that are available to freshman. I’m looking for colleges in the midwest, southeast, or northeast.

I understand the personal reasons for not wanting communal bathrooms. I’m the same way, but realize that finding private bathrooms or even suite styles for only 2 is going to be very hard. And if you do find a college that does this, it may not have other things you want in a college. I can think of a lot of colleges that have suite style bathrooms that are shared with like 6 people, but none that only cater to two people.

University of Alabama (the flagship in Tuscaloosa) has many “super suites”. Each student in a super suite has a private bedroom and shares a bathroom with one other student.

Bama has 11 residence halls with this type of set up.

This is a really silly reason to choose a college. No offense, but it is. Believe me, sharing a bathroom is really not that bad. I did a summer program at a university and even though the dorm was overcrowded and there was very little time available for showering, we made it work fine. Trust me, you will have to share a bathroom at some point in your life so you might as well get used to it now. But if you’re absolutely desperate to have a private bathroom, just find a college that doesn’t require freshmen to live on campus and get your own apartment.

chicagoan,
If your personal reasons can be legitimized by the college, the request may be possible at some schools that don’t make it known in their brochures and stuff. It’s worth asking…

mom2collegekids - Thanks! I was looking at the flagship school in Alabama but it seems pretty big though. The one in Birmingham is a lot smaller right?

Are colleges usually accommodating if you have a legitimate reason for wanting a private bathroom like religious reason or medical reason?
