Looking for cool, crisp, cotton sheets

Here is a trick I have done. I buy “separates” not sets of sheets. My bed happens to be a regular full, size bed. I buy a queen size top sheet. It’s nice and long, and covers everyone well when sleeping.

^^ I do the same thing, thumper. We have a queen size bed and we buy a king size top sheet.

If you want cool and crisp, light starching is your friend! Iron-free sheets by definition cannot be crisp.

I ordered a linen and a percale swatch from parachute. The nearest Bloomies is in Orlando, about 90 minutes away. Went to Macy’s last night, what a mess that place is. I did speak with a very knowledgeable sales associate. They had no percale sheets in the store or in nearby stores either. Ended up at BB&B. Bought a set of cotton percale sheets, they feel exactly like what I was looking for. They had two different sets, one was their Wamsutta Cool Touch Percale and the other was a no name 220 count cotton percale that felt perfect. Both were made in India. Went with the no name brand because the fitted sheet fit a mattress up to 15" versus the Cool Touch that went up to 18". I have a 10" mattress and was concerned that the Cool Touch would be too big. Will keep you all posted!

I found this Egyptian cotton sheet set online.

I recently went through a search for the ideal set of sheets.

We slept on Marimekko for many years (still have the sheets, which are without holes), but the last time I tried to buy Marimekko, I could only find sateen.

I then bought Garnet Hill, but like the poster above, I felt they did not wear well for the price. They were wrinkly and did not soften with washing the way I had hoped.

This time round, I found some percale Marimekko sheets on Amazon, and I am very happy with them.

Even more expensive than the Garnet Hill sheets, but the quality is better as well.

There are folks that rave about Costco sheets, even though they are sateen. On that other thread, many folks said the Costco sheets were top notch! The nice thing…you can try them, and if you don’t like them, you can return them!

The difference is…a year later. There are very few brands I love a year later.

I still love my Wamsutta Pinpoint…and it’s been several, years. They are still crisp and nice!

I’ve been pleased with Veratex cotton sheets; they’re made in the US. Costco sells some styles and you can find them online. Recently, I bought a set on sale directly from the company at a deep discount. The new set is much thinner than our first ones, but still feel nice.

I too like Egyptian cotton. Have bought at both Macy’s and BB&B.

This thread made me want to go upstairs and climb into my Egyptian cotton covered bed. Good night.

Best sheets ever: http://www.comphy.com/

It says the sheets are microfiber twill, which sounds like 100% polyester. I hate polyester–doesn’t breathe and too hot for humid HI.

Those are my favorites too. Last time I was in BBB they didn’t have them (probably why I was able to get my last set on markdown). I think that the wamsutta cool touch percale mentioned above must have replaced them. @ECmotherx2 , how did you like those?

@ECmotherx2, we may live in the same area. I’m also 90 minutes from the Orlando Bloomies and am considering driving over to see the Hudson Park sheets. I have 3 beds to buy for and want to get just the right sets. Please post your thoughts on the the ones you just bought. I feel like I’m asking for the moon to want crisp, higher thread count and some kind of decorative finish on the hems. Bloomingdales used to sell some by Court of Versailles with very pretty embroidery but I haven’t seen them there in years. I think I’ll also order a swatch from Parachute - just wish they didn’t charge for swatches.

@JustaMom5465 and @GRITS80 I bought a lower count cotton percale set at BB&B because it seemed the fitted sheet would fit my mattress better than the larger fitted sheet in the BB&B Cool Touch. The Cool Touch fabric also seemed close to what I was looking for and if the set that I purchased doesn’t hold up, I would purchase these. I put my “no name” set on the bed last night and I loved it. The sheets were cool and crisp but my husband said he thought they were too cold and not soft enough! He sleeps bundled up and I sleep with the sheet on and feet out from under the covers. Last night, I had no hot flashes and actually pulled up a cotton blanket! I’ll let you know how they are after a couple of washings. They were VERY inexpensive, $39 with the coupon for the entire queen set. I thought it was worth the try.

@GRITS80 I received confirmation last night that my swatches from Parachute were shipped. It seems like they have good customer service. I also ordered the linen swatch. When I get them, if you want, I can PM you and send them to you.

Now I know why my neighbor would always bring linens home from her trips to Italy!

I was first introduced to Hudson Park a few years ago when I was looking for extra long twin sheets for my son. He wanted “really nice sheets” for his dorm, and I wanted to indulge him a little. I bought Hudson Park from Bloomies online having no idea what they were really like. I was shocked that this fabulous brand had eluded me! They are smooth - with a heavy, high thread count hand. The twin sets have held up to multiple washings and abuse in commercial washers, and they still look great and come out of the dryer relatively wrinkle-free. I’ve since bought several more sets - the price is quite reasonable for the quality. The sizing is also generous, so there is plenty of room to tuck the flat sheet, even on thicker mattresses.

I like them better than the Frette set I bought in Italy - they’re more comfortable and look nicer on the bed.

I like white or off white sheets - no colors or patterns, ever, but with a nice trim - hemstitching or embroidery.

I know…I don’t think the Wamsutta Pinpoint is sold any longer either. But I don’t need sheets…mine are still in great shape…four years old!

@Gourmetmom , are they these?

I always took Ralph Lauren bedding for granted b/c I was always able to buy it at the RL Home Outlet. Once RL closed all of the Home outlet stores, I have been forced to look elsewhere. Cannot quite bring myself to pay the prices charged on the RL website, and regret that I did not stockpile even more sheets.
