Are there any especially good ones out there? I was at Bed Bath and Beyond yesterday and was tempted by the holiday votives but none of them seemed all that exciting (the typical evergreen/cinnamon/cranberry scents). Where else should I look?

Some of my favorites for winter are Yankee Candle’s Holiday Bayberry, Gingerbread, and Mulling Spices, and Red Apple Wreath. Holiday Bayberry reminds me of the incense at church on Christmas Eve. Gingerbread smells like fresh-baked! Mulling Spices is a nice combination of cinnamon and fruits, and Red Apple Wreath, although apple, is very understated and cinnamony.

I was just heading out the door to run errands and was also going to swing by BB&B to pick up a holiday candle or two. I was going to go with the cinnamon, but would also be interested in advice from others. This whole candle thing is kind of new to me.

village candles–winter wonderland. my absolute all-time favorite.

I was at a meeting at work earlier today, and brought some hand lotion with me that I purchased at Bath and Body Works in “Twisted Peppermint.” One of my colleagues mentioned that she couldn’t wait for their candles to go on sale; she loves “Winter” and “Vanilla Bean Noel”. She thought they were going on sale here on Dec. 20.

I think the Yankee Candles that are not the large jars but large tumblers (?) smell stronger. They have two wicks, but I don’t think they burn all that faster. I light it when I want it and put it out when I don’t. Anyway, there are some that are great scents… I bought a few 2 for 1 in Oct and picked some different scents and have been happy.

BEST candle ever:
Aunt Sadie’s Tree-in-a-Can [Premium Scented Candles - Aunt Sadies Premium Handmade Scented Candles](http://www.auntsadiesinc.com/product/category/57)

The worst thing about having an artificial Christmas tree is that you don’t get the wonderful smell that a fresh real tree can provide. Having a fresh wreath on the wall can help some, but I’ve really missed the fresh tree smell. I’d tried some pine scented candles in the past, but most of them smell NASTY. And even some fairly expensive candles (of any scent) have a pretty weak scent, IMO (including one I bought at Bath and Body Works).

I found the Tree-in-a-Can candle last year at Thanksgiving time, and it’s amazing! It really makes the house smell like it used to back when we had good fresh trees at Christmastime.

Aunt Sadie’s has a huge variety of scents - some of them pretty strange-sounding, like beer, pipe tobacco, leather, sizzling bacon, bread. They have tons of more traditional scents as well.

I think I spent around $17 for my Tree-in-a-can --WAY, way more than I would usually spend for a candle (I tend to be quite frugal). But they had some burning in the store where I bought it, and they made the store smell so wonderful that I just HAD to have my own Tree-in-a-can. We burnt it for so many hours last holiday season that there’s only about 1/3 left, so I’m going to have to track down another one!

They have a store locator on their website. Candles are $16 on the website.

(NO, I don’t have any connection to this company!
)

Just got a $30 value gardenia-scented candle as a door prize; am giving it to my sister because it made my S’s allergies go haywire, while it was in the closed box just driving 2 miles to drop it off! Can you guess, we’re EXTREMELY sensitive to scents around here. :)

I like the traditional candle scents- Hot apple cider is really good-
[BeanpodCandle.com - Soy Beads, Mood Selector, Candle Care, Home Fragrance](beanpodcandle.com) anything spicy- I can’t stand sweetish or flowery things usually ( except for actual sugar/flowers)- although I do like Nag Champa incense
