Looking for Gold Award Ideas

As a high school junior, I have been brainstorming gold award ideas for the past 6 months. All of the prerequisites are done, but coming up with a project idea has been rather hard. My dream project would involve something athletic, as i run varsity distance track, do tap/jazz/ballet dance, play volleyball, and do triathalons.

Organizing a triathalon is extremely expensive and not feasible because of the sheer logistics involved. My next major idea was organizing a 5K race, but after talking to local race directors, I learned that road races cost over $12,000 to run and so that really wouldn’t be feasible either.

Currently, a senior citizen 6/8 week exercise class, a dance marathon fundraiser, a dance workshop day, and a walkathon/swimathon are my latest ideas. Any other ideas or input?

Any advice/ideas/creative suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!

Why are you trying to create a Gold Award idea? Who benefits? (seniors, kids, the community, or just your profile for colleges?) Why does it have to be athletic? (I’m guessing you want to tie in your experience as a runner.) Are you recruitable? How about coming to this from another point-of-view: thinking of a cause, like raising funds for some HS friend who is suffering from cancer?

I am assuming that this is for the Girl Scout Gold Award? If so, I don’t think it needs to be money raising.
You already know that you want to do something athletic (running/dance), so that’s a good start.
Think about what group of people you want to help. Senior citizens, children, teens?
Think about something you want to make people aware of. Maybe lack of fitness in children or older people, etc.
Have you asked people around you if they know of a need that is not being served?

If you get it narrowed down, you should be able to come up with something. Good luck!

I would definately go with something you love. I have helped with our annual local Recognition Ceremony for Bronze, Silver and Gold receipents for multiple years. The girls that were passionate about their projects always seem to meet the deadlines, have a great time and get the most from the project.

Can you create a program for a local group that prepares the participants to take part in a local run? That would keep the cost down (you aren’t actually hosting the 5K), and be sustaniable–the plan would be in place for future years.
Good Luck!
