There have been many threads that have included the historical USNWR rankings dating back to 1991. Does anyone have the data on the PA scores dating back that far?? If so, would you please post it? Thanks.

Well, there is the obvious approach of pulling back issues of the report from a local library. This would not be in digital format, and transcribing it would be tedious.

There have been some academic studies of the USNews effects, try google scholar. Some of them have presented longer term trends in ranking, and may have presented data specifically on PA.

Some bond rating agencies use the ranking or other academic information about the schools as factors in determining debt ratings. They probably have studies justifying this, although I have not seen any. If you check S&P or Moody’s, the rating reports usually identify the primary person who wrote them. You might contact such a person and ask.

Hawkette, PA scores have fluctuated very little in the last 20 years. For example:
HPSM have managed to maintain a 4.9 PA score annually for as long as I can remember.

Yale has fluctuated from 4.8-4.9.

Cal and Caltech have fluctuated from 4.7-4.8 ever since I can remember.

Chicago, Columbia, Cornell and Johns Hopkins have fluctuated from 4.6-4.7 every single year

Michigan has fluctuated from 4.5-4.6 most years

Duke and Penn have fluctuated from 4.4-4.5

Brown, Dartmouth and Northwestern have generally had PAs of 4.4

UCLA and UVa have had average PAs of 4.3

Rice, UNC and Wisconsin have had PAs of 4.1-4.2 most years.

Etc…

Overall, I cannot think of a single university that has had a more than 0.2 fluctuation in PA in the last 20 years.
