I am trying to help an elderly friend find a lower cost for Welbutrin XL. GENERICS WILL NOT WORK.
(She has tried numerous meds already, and even had genetic testing done. Results show Welbutrin XL is the best medicine for her body.)
She has already called around to compare prices, Costco and grocery stores in addition to drug stores. Has anyone tried out any of the prescription savings programs? Or purchased medications in Canada or Mexico?
Just looking for advice from folks who have experience buying prescriptions via alternate sources.
I and many folks I know have purchased meds from India thru AllDayChemist.com. I only purchased once and they have purchased for many years. I have not heard or read any complaints from folks who have purchased. Sadly I think they cannot guarantee “brand name.”
Will your friend’s provider write a pre-authorization for her insurer to get her the brand name at a better price with her insurer? I have had my MDs do that a few times successfully. It is a hassle (as insurers intend) but can save $$$.
It might be worth checking to see if the drug manufacturer has a co-pay assistance program. My husband is on a very, very expensive medication and received co-pay assistance to stay on the name brand drug versus going with the generic. They are covering all but $30 of the amount insurance will not pay for name brand.
The drug assistance program for the drug my H has does not work if you have insurance from a government source. I think it might be a law. You have to have private insurance. No Medicare or affordable care act insurance. H had to talk to a representative and say that he was not receiving any government assistance as far as health insurance.
Please talk to me about how to find a reputable Canadian online pharmacy. Reviews for the first few I looked at are all over the place. But the prices are looking good. Maybe too good? They say they are pricing for REAL Brand Name Wellbutrin XL, NOT generic.
I am trying to help a 74 year old woman, she does not do anything with computers or cell phones at all. So I do not want to give her a recommendation for a pharmacy that ends up sending generic instead of Brand name, or that takes her money and won’t send product for months.
I don’t know if the doctor is prohibited from sending the script. But the doctor can give you a script to send in. We had a doctor suggest we do that for one particular drug that insurance refused to cover.
I believe any patient can request an Rx from their provider. What the patient does with the Rx and whether another country will honor it is beyond the prescriber’s control.
It makes no sense for the prescriber to get in trouble for wherever the patient tries to get the prescription filled.
I don’t know all the specifics but it can be difficult to get a US script filled in Canada. We have a cottage in Canada and this summer my D1 got there and realized she forgot her birth control pills - she was on the last ones of the month. She called a Canadian pharm and asked if they could fill a script for her - they said “ok” but when she called her pharm in Ohio to send a script for one month up there it couldn’t be done. I think it was something like @thumper said above.
It’s so kind of you to try and help her. Keep trying till you get a solid yes or no from somewhere!!!
Canadian pharmacists cannot fill an American script and American pharmacists cannot fill a Canadian script. I would be skeptical of any online pharmacy who says they can do this.
I remember reading once that most of the “Canadian” online pharmacies that you find online are actually not even in Canada. It’s just a scam to make themselves look more trustworthy.
I do not want to give any information to my elderly friend until I can really trust that I am giving her good information and trust that she will be getting the REAL drug, not a generic.
I’ve used canadadrugs.com for a particular prescription drug for years. It’s an expensive drug in the U.S., and costs about half if I order from them.
I get a written script from my doctor and order it online. I have to fax the script, and it takes about 3 weeks to receive in the mail. My particular drug arrives in my mailbox with a customs form attached from the U.K.
I’ve never had a problem, but did call them once with a question. They were helpful over the phone.
Quick search shows Wellbutrin XL is available for $1.76/tablet. Don’t know how that compares to U.S. prices.
I don’t think they’re manufactured in Canada. In my case, they’re made in the U.K., and the packaging is the same as if purchased here in the U.S. I believe it is the exact same drug manufactured by the same company in a different country.
