Looking for my Perfect Preppy Private school in PA, MD, VA

<p>Can you help me find a college in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia that:</p>

<p>-is private
-is not the most selective (50%+ admit rate)
-is not in an urban environment (can be in suburbs of a huge city however)
-has a small to medium number of students (up to 15k perhaps)
-have most students as residents (50%+ residential)
-attracts a homogeneously preppy student body (most of my friends and crushes tend to be preps… why not)
-has a good Communication program (if not, Business – my minor)
-accepts transfers from 2-year college</p>

<p>Thank you anyone!! I don’t know much about east coast colleges because I’m from far away, but most of my family lives in these states and I feel I can add geographical diversity. Thanks again!!</p>

<p>For Virginia I would say UVA, Washington and Lee, and U of R would be your prep powerhouses, but they are most selective.</p>

<p>I guess we dont need to ask for your stats since the criteria is so specific! still, despite not knowing them I think you should broaden your options to more selective schools – you might get lucky and once you’re in them they could be perfect fits.</p>

<p>I myself have family in MD. I’ve asked them briefly about some colleges there and 1 person they visit lives near Loyola College, which they claim is a “rich kids school”. I just looked it up on some review sites and apparently people are saying it’s preppy. And that it’s known for its business program. I have no actual physical experience with the school. However it’s becoming attractive to my daughter … I just hope aid is good …</p>

<p>The “transfer from two year college” factor raises some eyebrows. Transfers are by definition a different paradigm and all colleges have limited transfer slots, whether highly selective or not. Private schools are often an even harder nut to crack, particularly when it comes to accepting credits from the two year college. Not saying its impossible, but its a factor.</p>

<p>Your gpa and classrank at your two year college are of critical importance.</p>

<p>Rich kid and preppy are two ENTIRELY different things. Most preppies are rich kids, but not all rich kids are preppies. Do you mean real preppy, as in LL Bean, Cape Cod, madras, old money, gin-and-tonic preppy? Don’t know whether you are female or male, but when I think preppy in VA, I start thinking Hollins, Sweet Briar, Hampden-Sydney.</p>

<p>Thanks everyone!! Just to clear things up, by preppy I meant kids in collared shirts, who are social, good looking, hard-working, and somewhat athletic. not nerdy or artsy, but really balanced. I dont care if they’re rich. I’m middle class and have friends from many diffeerent backgrounds.</p>

<p>I havent finished my 2-yr college classes yet, I will make sure my classes perfctly transfer. I am gonna apply to Susquehanna because it seems too perfect!! Thank you!!</p>

<p>Boston College comes to mind right away.</p>

<p>Very preppy, situated in a safe, wealthy, beautiful suburban environment, 20 minutes away from a metropolitan area, fairly large, mostly residential, strong business program, respectable school.</p>

<p>Unfortunately, it’s a rather selective school and very few people manage to transfer in any year. The transfer acceptance rate is less than 5%.</p>

<p>But I do agree. Very preppy, populated by students with good means, and J. Crew dominates the campus. But the question is: Can the OP get in?</p>

Yes, that looked odd to me as well. According to its OIR, BC’s transfer admit rate has been hovering around 12-13%, which is nevertheless more selective than what the OP was looking for.</p>
