Hello everyone. Since the 2nd grade I’ve been deadset on attending the University of Michigan. That desire still holds and I am preparing to submit my application to that wonderful school. However, in the event I’m not accepted, I’d like to have some alternatives. Here are my credentials.

Unweighted GPA: 3.93 (Discounting freshman year, it’s a 3.96)
- ACT: 31 (33 Eng, 26 Math, 35 Read, 31 Sci)

of AP Classes: 9 (A’s in the 5 I’ve taken)

English Courses: Honors English 9 (A;B+), Honors 10 (A;A), AP Language (A;A), AP Literature

Math Courses: Modern Geometry (A;A), Algebra 2 (A;A), Precalc (A;A), AP AB Calc

Science Courses: Biology (A;A), Chemistry (A;B+), Accelerated Physics (A;A), Zoology, Astronomy

Social Studies Courses (Post Freshman): AP Microeconomics (A), AP US Government (A), AP Comparative Government (A), AP European History (A;A), AP World History, AP American History

Foreign Language: Spanish 2 (B+;A), Spanish 3 (A;A)

Extracirriculars: JV Golf Team, Youth Hockey Coach, Editor for Freshman paper, 2nd and 3rd grade math helper, actor in school play, ice hockey referee, web designer, attended National Young Leaders Conference and have racked up over 100 hours of community service.

I’m dead set on double majoring in History and Economics. I’d like to, at the very least, get my masters in one of those (Most likely Economics). I live near Detroit and, for a variety of other reasons, U of M makes the most sense. I had considered other major schools as alternatives, including George Mason, Chicago and George Washington, but have realized that a major school isn’t necessarily worth the cost in undergrad.

Therefore my question for all of you is this: what are some good “smaller” schools that would fit my needs? In other words, what are some good liberal art or smaller colleges that have good econ and history programs and are around the state of Michigan? I’d appreciate your input.

Thanks,
