Looking for Permanent Employment

I recently graduated from the U-M in May and have yet to find permanent employment in or near Ann Arbor. I signed a lease in March for an apartment in Ann Arbor, under the naive assumption that my original job wouldn’t have fallen through in the beginning of August. Thus, I don’t have the option of moving anywhere in the country until August of 2014.

Despite applying to dozens upon dozens of jobs on both the Career Center Connector and on the UM Careers Websites, I have had very little success in securing interviews, much less a permanent job. Fortunately, I am working in a contract-based/temporary position at a healthcare company until the end of November, unless this position is extended for a little bit longer.

I majored in Psychology and am pretty flexible with the type of organization, but my first choice would involve something in Development. I have been told by my current employer (temporary position) that my resume and cover letter are well-written, but that I have just had bad luck and not known the right people. Do any alumni have advice of how to make more connections, as the few that I have had have not really been of much help? I am extremely worried that I won’t be able to find anything within the next couple of months, which is when I would have to renew my lease in order to not lose my apartment. Thank you in advance.
