Looking for reaches to add to college list (engineering)

My SATs just jumped up an considerable amount so I’m looking for some last minute schools to add to my college list…

Current college list:

BU
Case Western
Lafayette
Syracuse
Union
WPI
Rutgers

SAT - 2020 (740M, 630CR, 650W)
GPA - 3.53 (school does not weight, and does NOT offer AP/IB)

I was considering adding on Bucknell, GW, and Lehigh but there are different aspects of those schools that just turn me off…

Any recommendations for reaches?

(also both of my parents are UPenn alumni. With the legacy hook, does that become a reasonable reach, or should I just not waist my time?)

Stevens Institute of Technology

http://www.stevens.edu/sit/

I visited Stevens a few months ago… didn’t like it that much

I live in New Jersey so I kind of had a “this is too close to home” feeling about the school

With your new score, you should able to get in all your choices.

You have good chance at Ga Tech, my Alma Mater. Unlike many other top engineering public universities (Berkeley, Texas for example), Ga Tech does not have quota against OOS. So that’s why I think you have good chance. All engineering majors at Tech is ranked among top ten in the US. The only downside is that Ga Tech does not offer very good OOS financial aids.

UPenn engineering school is probably still big reach.

university of pittsburgh
rpi

excellent engineering schools you could get in to

UIllinois, Purdue, Penn State, ED for UMich

Unless OP is IS for UIUC it is a big reach.

unless you’re strapped for cash, you might as well give UPENN a try.

OP, Your stats are very similar to my D. She is at University of Rochester.

Erin’s Dad, I actually had a fellow classmate who had the same stats as the OP and is in UIllinois’ Engineering program. Even though UIUC is a great school and quite hard to get into, I feel like the OP has a chance as a small reach. But I guess you could be right also.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone… I’ve been looking into the schools as people have been posting them…

I am kind of drawn more to smaller “Liberal Art-y” schools that have engineering programs (ex. Lafayette). Most of the recommendation from people have been for larger schools. If anyone has any more ideas it would be highly appreciated.

U of Ill champaign and Cooper Union

Since you’re asking for reaches, and you like liberal arts type schools, perhaps Swarthmore?
