NOTES* I am a fairly strong writer, and I will have excellent reccomendations. My school is consistently ranked higher every year, but is still a suburban public school and should be treated this way. I am also going to take the SATs again as well as the SAT II in Math I, USH, and World History, as well as possibly spanish with listening.

LOOKING FOR SAFTIES PLEASE! NOT CHANCES, ONLY LISTED SCHOOLS BECAUSE I WANTED YOU TO ELIMINATE THOSE FROM LIST AND FOR YOU TO KNOW THE KIND OF SCHOOL THAT I LIKE.

You and I have very similar stats. I think you already have a safety in American University, but other good ones are Syracuse University and Boston University. Good luck!

You are about nine months ahead of yourself. It is unlikely you’ll get much attention on CC given the class ahead of you is in the midst of it all for real, not pretend.

But I’ll play because I am bored and need a break from Christmas wrapping.

Your SATs are good and you should be able to raise them by at least 100 points with practice. You have two more shots at them (practically). You should also focus on focusing your ECs so that they cohere along a couple of themes.

I’d add a couple more stretch schools to your list. Columbia and Tufts have strong IR programs. I’d drop American University (not a particularly strong school) and NYU (unless you are interested in it for the performing arts).

For safeties, I’d keep Dickinson (and if you are predisposed to Pennsylvania LACs) add Franklin & Marshall. I would also consider Goucher College as an excelllent safety, given you interest in IR and the performing arts. I would round it out with the University of Pittsburgh, a very good state school.

So here’s your list:

Johns Hopkins University ED
Columbia University
Tufts University
Georgetown University
George Washington University
Dickinson College (safety)
Franklin & Marshall College (safety)
Goucher College (safety)
University of Pittsburgh (safety)

I agree that with current info, American is already your safety. If you want safety schools a la International studies, then look at schools with excellent language departments since languages are a precursor toward a successful career in that area…e.g. Indiana University for Russian.

University of Denver is very strong in international relations and has an incredible study abroad program, it’s the size you are looking for, with a very pretty campus is a fabulous city. Check it out! You also could get fairly generous merit aid there.

thanks guys for all the help! and yes I am looking ahead of myself, but only because I know that I am going to be extremely busy in the next few months, as all of my ECs are going to be hitting full force…so yeah I was just thinking. Also I needed to figure it out otherwise my parents would kill me.
