Looking for scholarship opportunities for Native American

I have a friend whose son will graduate with an AA from a community college in FL in May. He is looking to transfer to pursue a 4-year degree in Accounting. His grades are very good. He is a registered member of the Pueblo of Nambe tribe in New Mexico. He currently has a scholarship to attend U of FL at Gainesville, but he’s interested in exploring other opportunities (i.e., scholarships) outside of Florida. Any suggestions as to where he might look would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Look into the program at Dartmouth College although admission is very difficult.

Thanks, Bill.

Educating indigenous people was written into Dartmouth’s founding charter in 1769. It’s part of their mission. Admissions is very difficult, but my understanding is that they look at applicants of indigenous ancestry differently with an eye toward their potential and obstacles they’ve overcome. Their admissions decisions are based on a holistic review of an applicant’s entire admissions packet, allowing them to take many factors into account.

Read about their program on the Dartmouth website. They offer a special Fly-In program to facilitate their recruitment of Native American applicants. To qualify, I think the requirement is 1/8 Native American ancestry although that should be checked and confirmed.
