Looking for soft, cotton sheets for my own bed

I may have asked about this before, but the bedding landscape is ever changing, so a fresh discussion is in order.

I like soft cotton sheets.

Decades ago, Marimekko provided just the right kind of sheets, and they lasted for years, growing ever softer. We still have a set from thirty years ago (the “graph paper” pattern, if anyone else had them).

I have a Marimekko percale set now, but they are a bit crisper than I prefer. And, in general, Marimekko queen size sheets are hard to come by.

We’ve tried sheets from Garnet Hill and the Company Store, but they don’t have the softness I am looking for.

Any recommendations?

I listen to podcasts, where they peddle Brooklinen and Boll & Branch sheets – anyone tried those?

We use Sheex, but they aren’t cotton. We like them a lot, and switch to flannel in the winter.

I buy Bloomingdales Hudson sheets.

Looking for something other than sateen, looks like at least some of the Hudson sheets are sateen…

This is gonna be a tall order to fill. Most of the American textile mills have closed down. It’s hard to even find luxury sheets that aren’t sateen. I was going to suggest Company Store or Garnet Hill. The old Charisma sheets were amazing - 360 thread count Supima Cotton. I would see what you can find in a Supima cotton, which is a long-staple cotton. Or Italian sheets - I found some at TJ Maxx years ago on clearance. They were still expensive, and I didn’t buy them. Been kicking myself ever since.

Bloomingdale’s is a good source for linens. But I think you’re down to trying one of the Made in USA startups like Brooklinen, Red Land Cotton, Authenticity 50, etc.

I’ve been buying sheets at HomeGoods for quite a while now. I’ve gotten some great one-of-a-kind things there. You never know exactly what you’ll find.

I now have a set of sheets that were made in India, and are very soft.

I also am also an all cotton fan and they are tough to find! Reading with interest.

These are advertised on a few podcasts I listen to. I believe they are all cotton?

May sound surprising but I believe it’s the kirkland brand at Cosco that has pretty soft 100% cotton sheet sets. I had to go to a few different stores to find the queen size in white that I wanted. That color/size combo was not available online either. My no-longer-available favorite were an all cotton supima that they sold at Wamsutta outlets. I was so sad when they closed.

I had a set of soft Wamsutta sheets as well, which I purchased at Bed, Bath, and Beyond – they use to have little samples of the sheets available so you could see what they felt like.

Take a look at [Crane & Canopy.](Sheet Sets | Crane & Canopy)

They sell 100% 440 thread count cotton sheets.

If you want to remortgage your house, Boll & Branch

I bought myself some new Branch & Boll sheets recently. Pricey (although I found an online coupon), and find they are quite soft and comfy cotton. I just got the solid hemmed sheet set – with coupon, $170 for a set of full sized sheets. I am happy with them.

Boll and Branch sheets and duvet cover are still pretty soft after 3 years.

I’m laughing because I really dislike soft sheets! I’m always on the hunt for the crispy kind that wrinkle, and those are increasingly rare.

I splurged and bought TWO sets of cotton sheets that were the size of our Full bed the last time I saw them at Ross. I love them and they’re 100% cotton but very variable availability.

Sam’s and Costco have 100% cotton sheets at varying sizes, especially near holiday season, if you’re interested. Prices are good and I have only read/hear positive reviews.

I purchased new sheets for our vacation home this year and bought them from Brooklinen. I got the classic sheets and like them very much—they are cotton (percale) and soft. (I hate sateen.) I got a discount and didn’t pay for shipping.
At home, we have Sferra sheets, which are soft and have worn well.

I also like the sheets from Parachute (another online sheet company).

I’m a Boll & Branch fan. They have sales all the time.

Thanks for all the feedback!

I wish it were possible to have a fabric sample before making the investment.
