preference
location:super big cities…
size:not a big factor
decent asian population->10+%
cali or east caost
im more caring about prestige as a whole school,not prestige of specific program…
i like schools that are more focus on science than humanity
im cali resi…

my stats
gpa->w3.85, uw3.6
sat:about 2000
sat2:korean800,mathII720,chemistry640(retaking math and chem)
band
track
and other little stuff

his stats are a bit low for Mudd though. 200 below the avg SAT score and his gpa is a bit on the skimpy side. If he cares about prestige then his best bet are UCLA and UCB since they are gentle on in-state students.

yeah i thought about mudd,la,cal but i fugured that it might be pretty tough for me…so im more considering top30~50

and im willing to apply as ED to a school…
i really like the location of mudd(close to la but far enough to avoid bad thingas about big city)but i dont think i have any chance even with ED

It isn’t in California or the East Coast but I really think you should look at Rice. Rice is located in Houston – the 4th largest city in the USA and the school has a 16% Asian population. Furthermore, Rice is known for its science program, especially engineering. Rice definitely is known for its prestige but it may depend on where you are asking people. For example, I live in New York City and most people have heard of Rice but are not specifically clear on its academic strongholds because Texas usually isn’t a place where NYC high school grads go to. Trust me, I’ve been getting a lot of “Congrats on Rice! Where exactly is it?”

Some suggestions… all have an acceptance rate under 50%

REACH: Georgetown University (DC), Johns Hopkins University (MD), Rice University (TX), University of Pennsylvania ¶

SEMI-REACH: Carnegie Mellon University ¶, University of California-Berkeley (CA), University of California-Los Angeles (CA), University of Southern California (CA)

GOOD FIT: George Washington University (DC), New York University (NY), Northeastern University (MA), Tulane University (LA)

LIKELY: San Diego State University (CA), University of San Diego (CA)

stat changed… my wgpa is 3.8 and uwgpa is 3.58…i got b on english…instead of a…thats my 1 change…but i changed number significantly…since i dont have freshman gpa…(moved here in my soph year…)
so my gpa is 3.4-3.8-4.0-4.0

oh also i have one more question for littleathiest(some1 else can answer too)
do you think i have a chance at rice(undecided) with ED??or tepper at CMU with ED??or stern at nyu with ED??

ED would definitely increase your chances at the three schools. I agree with loslobos about your chances for Carnegie Mellon and Rice if you did ED to those two and would leave NYU at a good fit level ED because Stern is one of the most competitive branches of the school.
