Looking for the right art college!

I hope this is the right forum, just joined a few minutes ago, hoping to find some answers.
[If I need to be in another forum, I don’t mind being redirected  ]

I just graduated from high school in May, and just recently registered for a tech school and planned on transferring once I found the college that had the exact art programs I wanted.
But that is slightly where the problem lies. I originally thought I’d wanted to participate in a sequential program, because my interest was in doing comics and cartooning, but realized my true love was in cartoons on television.
So my aspiration is to become the next Thurop Van Orman or Brendan Small, and become the creator of a televised cartoon.

What classes should I take to prepare me for this occupation?
Should I still be looking for sequential programs/ illustration programs or animation programs?
What school would help me thrive?

Where my second problem lies is in location. If possible, I would love to stay within the southern region of the US. I have lived my whole life in SC. If not in, I would love to just be near home.

You should check out Savannah College of art and design. It’s in North Carolina located pretty close to the beach

*Savannah College of Art and Design is in Savannah, Georgia, not in North Carolina - though there is a beach nearby. If you live in SC then it would be very close; Hilton Head is literally right across the bridge.
If you really love cartoons, I would look into an Animation major instead. Sequential art and graphic novels are NOT television cartoons - I went to an animation camp at a college nearby for two years because I thought that’s what I wanted to go into, only to realize I really loved Sequential Art instead.
I’ve heard that SCAD’s Animation program (as well as others, I’m sure) is VERY rigorous, but the payoff is great.
Here’s a link to their website if you’re interested: [SCAD > The University for Creative Careers](http://www.scad.edu/)
I visited Savannah last summer and I’m going to SCAD for a week-long camp this summer and I love the city. Deathly hot in the summer but great otherwise.

I would try to find a class in animation to make sure that’s what you want to go into. Try out some animation on your own, at least. Also, if cost is a concern (SCAD’s $40,000 a year including room and board), SCAD does have academic and portfolio scholarships up to $20,000 each. They also have Career Services that helps students to find work after they graduate. I heard of one graduate getting a $75,000 starting salary at Pixar right after graduation - can’t complain about that!
