Looking for unique thank you gift to send across country, flowers are so yesterday!

A friend has just done a great favor for S1 and I’d love to send her something delivered to her door. I don’t know the area she lives in well so I hesitate to send flowers because you never know how nice they actually end up looking, plus flowers seem so unimaginative!

I have a friend who thanked some teenage girls who took care of her young kids by sending them some delicious ice cream from icreamery dot com. It was so clever because the web site manufactures personalized labels (Like “Deirdre’s Delight” for the girl named Deirdre, Caroline’s Crunch, etc ). I love the idea but my friend is trying to lose weight for her daughter’s wedding and I think it would be mean to send ice cream.

Anybody have any other creative and non fattening ideas?

A friend has his wine guy send an assorted box… much nicer than we would buy ourselves. fattening? I don’t count calories in wine ;)

How about a housecleaning or mani/pedi gift certificate to be used before the wedding?

We used Edible Arrangements for a big “bouquet” of fruit for Project Graduation. I had never heard of the company before, but they did a great job. It’s a national franchise, so maybe they would be in the area. You can see the possibilities of gifts on their website: [Edible Arrangements® Fruit Baskets & Bouquets, Chocolate Strawberries](http://www.ediblearrangements.com/)

Food from Zabar’s is always good. They do a great job with overnight delivery. Real NY bagels, salmon, etc.

My daughter & her Bf gave us an edible arrangement for something or other.
I had never heard of it either, but thought it was very clever and the fruit used was very fresh & delicious.

Another vote for Edible Arrangement.

Edible Arrangements fan here too. I usually send a dozen chocolate covered strawberries. They are AMAZING! The strawberries are huge. I mean huge.

How about pajamagram dot com? Lots of choices in style and color.

One more vote for edible arrangements! :)

call me tight. … but I find the edible arrangements too pricey. Yes, the arrangement looks good but the smallest arrangement can cost $40-50…for fruit.

I would go with a spa treatment.

I would not send a spa gift certificate unless I know for sure that the receiver of the gift likes spa treatments (e.g., I will have no use for such certificate since I do not like spa stuff).

My Dad called today offering to send Edible Arrangement for my birthday. I explained there was too much risk of spoilage with just the two of use. We agreed that instead he would buy dinner for the family when we vacation together in a few weeks. He gladly agreed and said he’d add another night to celebrate DH’s birthday (last May). We are all happy ;)

Edible arrangements are terrific IF you choose a fruit that is in season. Right now their strawberries are very good. The apples are awful. So choose wisely.

I’ve gotten some nice plants…what about perennials for their garden?

If you give the general metropolitan area where this person lives, perhaps one of us will be able to suggest something local.

Harry and David has great gift baskets.

BunsenBurner, I thought I was the only one! I am normally fairly confident, but the thought of going to a spa makes my stomach turn. I have a pedicure a couple of times a year in a strip center and even that isn’t very comfortable for me.

When I turned 50 my sister sent me a nice gift certificate to…a spa! I found out online that I could use it at their gift shop for over-priced spa-stuff so I did that instead! I would not have a $100 manicure no matter how much money I had. That’s just crazy-wasteful to me.

Agree that Edible Arrangements are tasty, but WAY overpriced. What about a gift certificate to a nice restaurant? Or to a dessert place for a post-wedding splurge?

Is there anything unique to your home town you could send?

I’ll also add my endorsement for Harry and David. They have wonderful pears that would fit in with most weight loss plans. They also ship other goodies but the pears are their signature item.

I agree about a spa. I have no interest either. If you know your friend has a favorite spa , that is a different story. If you know where she likes to get her hair cut, a gift card from there could be good. Or, has been suggested, a gift card to a local restaurant .
Or local nursery if she is into gardening.

Food ideas that haven’t been mentioned and have online stores: Lindt(dessert chocolates, hot chocolate, truffles, etc.)
Early’s Sausage
Rowena’s (pound cakes, regular and sugar free desserts, lemon curds, etc.) http://www.rowenas.com

My mother once received a gift that I still remember 20 years later. It was mail-order tropical flowers from Hawaii. They came in a box and we had to arrange them (but they enclosed suggestions) The flowers were wonderfully unique and beautiful. I just googled this, and there are several companies that ship flowers from Hawaii to mainland US.
