Income Bracket: 100K-150K?

(R=Reach, S=Safety, M=Match)
And this is my pipe dream:
Harvard- R

Stanford-R
Yale-R
Stern/ New York University-R
McDonough/ Georgetown-M/R
Northwestern-M
Boston College-S/M
Boston University-S

Now I have a few questions:

 1. Is my list balanced enough?
 2. Is my list practical?
 3. Do I need more safeties?
 4. Are my evaluations (R,M,S) realistic?

I’m completely open to any suggestions for schools with strong economics or finance programs, as well as schools that would seem to fit me as a student.

Thanks for the help CC’ers!

I would suggest that you add a few LACs with good Wall Street connections and excellent admission rates to top MBA programs. These would include Amherst and Williams, and one step down in selectivity, Bowdoin, Hamilton or Trinity CT. As a high achieving African American (who presumably is not looking for financial aid) you could use these as matches (or even safeties in the case of Hamilton or Trinity) and still achieve the same academic and career advantage as would at your reaches.

I would also suggest that you apply to University of Michigan under their rolling admissions process. If you apply early in the year, they’ll let you know within a few weeks if you are admitted and if yes, that could be your safety.

Thanks for the help, are there any other noteworthy schools with rolling admissions??

BC isn’t a safety for anyone anymore. They have something like a 25% admission rate now.

I’d add another safety. How about Indiana? It has one of the best b-schools in the country, and I believe it’s rolling.

Indiana may be a safety, but is the business school a safety?

1300 SAT (regular) and 3.5 gpa or top 10% in class = Direct Admission to Kelley. From what I’ve heard though only a few people do direct admit to Kelley because most likely with those stats they can get into a better business school and they usually do.

Apply to Kelley though, for you, it’s a safety. you’re in :)
