Looking to be a pharmacologist: How's my list look?

Boston College- low reach
Boston University-match
Brown University-match
Northeastern University-match
Providence College-match
Suffolk University-low match
Temple University-safety
Tufts University-low reach
University of Connecicut-safety (state school and I have free tutition guarenteed)
University of Massachusetts Amherst-safety (mom made me put it on here…)
University of Pennsylvania-reach
University of the Sciences Phlidelphia-match
Widener University-low match

For the most part I have taken the most rigorous schedule possible. I’m probably val or sal of my class of 150 students or so. My gpa is close to a 4.0 unweighted, but my school doesn’t give them to us on a 4.0 scale. So with a 4.0 counting as an A+ my gpa is probably a 3.85 or so. I got a 2050 on the SAT I and a 34 on the ACT plus writing.

I’m looking to narrow down my list to about half this number, so six or seven. Any recommendations would be great.

Brown a match but Tufts and BC low reach??

Elaborate.

Ummm, Brown is not a match for anyone.

You have a very varied list. Brown is alot different from BC which is alot different from Northeastern.

And I would definitely use only your ACT cause it is alot better than your SAT.

I’m not sure if you’re looking this way but University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA has the best pharmacy school on the west coast for sure. I would definitely spend the time to check it out. It’s not the easiest place to get into but if it’s a possibility.

Oh wow, I definitely meant to put a reach for Brown. Sorry everyone and thanks for pointing that out. I don’t think Brown and me are a match at all.

Thanks for the advice RonRaul. I plan on doing that unless I retake the SATs and do much better.

Thanks for the idea Briana, but I’m looking to stay in the New England, NY, PA region.

Suffolk low match? They practically take anyone.

Why is BC a low reach for you? It’s actually less difficult to get in than Brown.

definitely look at the University Of Pittsburgh, one of the top pharmacy schools in the country!

XX55XX, I messed up when I wrote that list. Brown should be a reach.

Thanks for the info pierre. Pittburgh is just a little too far away from home for me. I would like to stay within 5-6 hours from home.

I know you said Pittsburgh is too far from home but with your ACT+GPA I think you’d have a shot at a guaranteed pharmacy program which is definitely worth considering. Pitt also has a very easy application process so if you’re not strapped for application fees, it might be worth having that option.

There is a huge difference between pharmacy and pharmacology. Although the thread title suggests the latter, most posters are jumping to the conclusion that you meant the former.

Which do you plan to study? If it’s pharmacology, you have a much wider array of options available.

IBclass06, you bring up a good point.
I do NOT want to study pharmacy or become a pharmacist.
I want to become a pharmacologist who would work in a lab researching and developing pharmaceuticals, as opposed to distributing them to the public.

In that case, my recommendations would be:

Safety- U Conn, Boston U
Match- Boston College, Tufts
Reach- Brown, Penn

You could probably add another reach or two.

Thanks for all your help, IB.

Bumpp…

look into URI for a good safety. Ive heard only good things about their program

URI is famous for its pharmacy program which apparently is not what the OP is looking for (not to mention that URI is a not so great place to go to school IMO)

thanks for the input chocolate25, but I don’t think URI is a good fit for me.

bumppp…

Ummmm Temple is MUCH more competitive than Suffolk and Widener…

With your kind of stats, aren’t you eligible for UCONN’s Honors Program?
