H and I finally decided to replace some of the assembly-required furniture we’ve had for twenty-odd years, but I despise furniture-store salespeople and would be extremely happy if someone could point me to an on-line place. Primarily looking for a few bookcases and a dresser. Any suggestions?

I have been happy with the quality of home decorators.com. I do a lot of online shopping.

How much are you looking to spend? Pompanoosuc Mills is beautiful…but very pricey!

This may be too obvious to post, but…you can purchase from Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn online if one of their looks/prices fits your needs.

We have purchased two queen beds and a dresser from overstock.com. I would recommend them if and only if you purchase an item that has lots of reviews and is highly rated. I’ve found their customer service to be very good, and their shipping is only $2.95 for your entire order. Their selection is limited and most of their pieces require assembly. Read the descriptions carefully to differentiate real wood from wood veneer pieces if this matters to you.

room and board or CB2 for mad men modern, hive as well

Great quality at [West Elm](http://www.westelm.com/shop/furniture/dressers-nightstands/?cm_type=lnav). I’ve used them in commercial applications as well.

If you want hand crafted furniture from solid wood that you’ll hand down, try [Custom Wood Products - Home](http://customwoodpro.com/). We have bought many pieces and I know he ships! My desk, featured on the website was VERY affordable! (Cheaper than ANY desk I could find at a mass market store.)
